Members Taylor Davis
I don't think anyone took umbrage to the idea that all songwriters have a certain method and that playing to your strengths is a good idea. Rather, I think most people were put off by Mr. Davis's claim that it's "easy" for him to "craft unforgettable tunes and stick in your head lyrics." Even the greatest songwriters have turned out their fair share of clunkers, so this writing-great-songs-is-easy idea rather smacks of misplaced arrogance - particularly from someone who (as far as I know) has not cracked the Billboard charts yet. Sure a method is good, and undoubtedly some methods work much better than others. But at the end of the day, songwriting is an art, not a science. I feel strongly that I can take any "B" side ditty and by working on it and tweaking this or that and or throwing that away and useing this then maybe by slowing it down a bit or speeding it up a bit, I can turn that "B" side boredom-fest into an "A" side sweetie. So I work on my simple dittys till "I'm" mostly satisfied and then I record em till i get a passable take and go from there. I then turn em loose on the world. Literally. Like a baby that's grown, I got to let it go. Music is totally subjective, (beauty is in the eye of the beholder) yet by knowing about lyrical "intent" and alliteration, and "EARTH" tone qualities and form and meter and a bit of theory (tension and release) thrown in for good measure, plus haveing that quirk of nature which makes me a bit bulldoggish concerning music; I'm really NOT "able" to let go of a song (or idea) 'til it's Done. I believed at one time, that everyone could play many different instruments like me. (except trumpet) I was sure that everybody could take almost any instrument(not trumpet) and make it work. I thought everybody sang in tune with the lawnmower or that they knew that the car tire whine was in the same key as a black sabbath song. . I thought everyone had boxes of storys and poems and haikus that they had been writing since their kid days. I'm a goode guy so here's the deal: IF PAT COAST or anyone Honestly wishes to hear my simple homemade dittys then Just PM me a snail mail addy and I'll send you a ceedee. I send em all over the place so it's no big deal. If you like any of the songs,(PAT) I mean really "like" at least one, then you send me a donation of any denomination you feel appropriate. I "hear" you is loaded, you can afford it.(smiles and laughs) I'll mail out a 22 track ceedee absolutely packed with all original material plus a track list to anyone who "really" wishes to hear my all original stuff. I only ask, if you honestly like anything on it then you must donate to the cause. if you don't like anything on it, send nothing, toss the homemade ceedee into the dustbin and no worries. (smiles broadly and waves) buh bye! Nice deflection, but I believe it was you, not I, who bragged about his ability to write great songs, claimed to be a BONA FIDE songster, etc etc. It is you who should be on the radio, though I have enjoyed the benefit of airplay at various times and places. Good sport? I have put up with your unwarranted insults, and I have only asked you to back up your claims. So far, you made no attempt to do so. And now, you're bidding us adieu? One can only hope. Whatever. I've seen dozens of guys like you come and go here. Buh bye, indeed. Allow me to give you an OVATION on your way out.

Members Taylor Davis
Taylor, Try typing the url in, and saving the target. Your browser may not be setup to play mp3 files.... tried it as you suggested and still no go. I entered the first part of the addy and I did finde the site yet I'm unable to access the page. The intro page wants me to register. Maybe it's because My security(privacy) function is set too high? I'll see. I lowered my security function and still no go. Mysterious for sure. Members wades_keys
I tried all kinds of things to make it not work for me on XP with IE 6.0.29 - even disabling the windows multimedia player addin, disabling all active script... Go here - you'll see a directory listing of files. Do a search (Edit, Find) for bluer.mp3, then click the link. If you're prompted for a login, then you need to change your security settings: tools, internet options, security, click the "internet" globe, click "custom level", scroll all the way to the bottom and under "User authentication - Logon" click "Anonymous logon". Then click okay on all boxes, goto Tools, Internet options, General and click "Delete Cookies", "Delete Files" - click the checkbox for "Delete all Offline Content". Then close down all running instances of the browser. Restart your browser and try again... You might also want to make sure windows media player is properly installed and configured to execute mp3 files.
Members Ernest Buckley
Writing everyday no matter what is also great advice.I would recommend as a writer myself that you establish some sort of system. For me, I only use a yellow legal pad and specific pens. Funny as that may seem, it has oriented me to some sort of familiarity and knowing I have written successfully (in my own terms) gives the confidence to write using the same tools. I fixed everything properly and I can play any file on my compy or on you-tube or on myspace, all files anywhere except those on that page. veddy mysterious. I have no idea why. Who did the singing? My only fault with it, and it's a very minor one, is that the vocals had just a bit too much reverb on them for my liking. I realize it's part of the vibe for that style of music, but the drip was just a c-hair too much for me. Other than that, it was a great song and really well performed. I'd buy it as is. That's Cal's (lyricist) wife Teresa. She has that "sultry" sound that works so well on these lounge songs of mine and Cal's. It's great to have a singer in the family. Members TomJoad
Pete Seeger once said that "plagiarism is basic to all culture." I think there is a lot of truth in that. The Wobblies (IWW--see Wikipedia) used to write new non-religious lyrics to Salvation army hymn tunes. Some people use traditional folk tunes and add their own lyrics. A good example is Bob Dylan's "The Ballad of Hollis Brown" which uses the tune of a traditional US folk song "Pretty Polly". If you are experiencing songwriters block, take the first few bars of any song you like and develop it in a new and different way. It might get you started again. I like myself just as I am. plain and normal. If you would like a ceedee(sighs) just PM me a snail mail addy. Or an E-mail addy for a song or two. I have no "hits". at least not famous ones. At least, "not yet", but the year is young and I've got a few more irons in the fire that i did'nt have previously. So who knows? not me! I do however have many tunes of which I'm proud. Olde, new, slow, fast ,blues, country, reggae, rock, jazz, um, I'm sure there's more styles I cover, i just have no need to expound further on that. Folkes always ask for this tune or that tune so i oblige sure cause it's on the set list. Many folkes tell me that my tunes feed their souls and sooth their shattered psyches. That's absolutely amazing to me. I'm astounded by those types of revelations(from mostly total strangers). you CAN'T PAY FOLKES to say stuff like that. I only write and arrange FOR ME to suit ME! when othre folkes like my songs it's ALL GRAVY ON THE CAKE. Ole'!
