I'd say that's more an instrument/arrangement issue where you'd tend to get a better set of answers in one of the HC Guitar Forums. Electric Guitar | Acoustic Guitar

 

One thing I do sometimes is use a guitar with a capo or perhaps in a different tuning and revoice the chords appropriately. But maybe that's not what you mean, since you mentioned a rhythm harmony...

 

Anyhow, the pickers in the guitar forums love to go on about that kind of thing, I'm thinkin'.

Personally, I think it is redundant to play the same chord on the same instrument. But if you must:

 

Change the voicing

Change the emphasis from treble to bass

Change the strum stroke from down to up

Change the position on the neck

Change the tone
