Members Dimebag11
What's the general consensus here? I really love my Peavey Vypyr 15 but, it was an early model as has all sorts of booting problems and I'd prefer to have a newer one (with USB also). So? Members Dimebag11
only other thing I'd look at is maybe one of those krank jr.'s or blackstar ht-5's. I need a home practice amp and I really loved my Vypyr though So, I'm leaning that way.
Members TheEsupremacy
The 60 watt tube version is marginally better in tone. Definately more headroom and records better (if you're mic'n it). If you're just looking for a cheaper practice amp the 75 watt will do you just fine. The 15 watt is a tease. EDIT: Quite of few of the solos on Triviums new cd "Shogun" were recorded with a tube Vypyr @ various settings. They sound damn good too. The difference is only about $100 so, that's not a big deal. I'd prefer the better one and if that's the Tube one...I might go for that. The Tube 120 would probably be too much for me. Members TheEsupremacy
I think you should get the tube 60. It really does sound good. Make sure you get the latest firmware update for it (It MIGHT already come with it). It's version 1.55 That Blackstar amp does seem kinda cool though doesn't it? Members troublehead
I had the Vypyr 30 for awhile with the 1.55 upgrade. No boot problems with mine, but it was too ice-picky and harsh. It seriously pales in comparison to the Blackstar that I have now. The HT5 into a good 1x12 cab is the best tone purchase I have made as far back as I can remember. The Blackstar is pretty cool but, limited in what it can do... The Peavey has awesome effects as well as awesome amp models I think the Tube versions come with 1.55, if not it's easy to fix it via USB. I'm guessing if I use the USB out on the Peavey it will sound the same whether it's the Tube or the SS model, right?
Members Dimebag11
The blackstar I'd still need a USB interface and no effects.

I do think the tube version would sound better if you were going to mic it though. Also, you need a midi cable to update the firmware on it, it cannot be done through the USB port at this time although Peavey said they *MIGHT* fix that later... I think the effects on the Vypyr sound pretty damn good for what they are. Supposedly they will get better though the firmware updates. Guess I'll find out. Members cdstrings
I just ordered the Vypyr Tube 120 from Music 123. Got it for $487 because I had a 25% coupon. I am a little worried after hearing all the problems with these things, but still looking forward to playing it. Hopefully I don't get a dog. Members cdstrings
mind sharing that coupon code It was a one use coupon I got from sending a gift certificate out for Christmas. Tried it again and did not work. Sorry!
Members Dimebag11
....maybe I should hold out and get the 6505+ 1x12. It's the same price point and has a direct out too I'll throw a T75 in there and I could hook it up to my Marshall cab for gigs.

Members Dimebag11
how are these vs line 6 modeling? I muuuch prefer the Vypyr to any Line 6 product I have tried Much better feel...nice tube sag for sure. I think at this point I'm leaning towards the 6505+ 1x12 though as I know I'll be able to use it not only as a practice amp but for jamming, gigging even (on top of my 1960A)......plus, it's got reverb and an XLR mic sim out. Throw a V30 or T75 in the 1x12 cab and I'm golden.
