Some lyrics I'm trying to tidy up. Suggestions?

Oklahma State Line Blues

© 2008 Elias Graves

Growin' up

In them sandy hills

You hear about the world's exotic places

Where people ride

In limousines

Or walk around with bull rings in their faces

My desire

To see these things

Has only led to heartache and despair

There's only one

Place left to see

Highway won't you please take me there?

Chorus

I got the Oklahoma state line blues

Been roamin' around trying to find a clue

I got the Oklahoma state line blues

Time to go home I got nothin' left to lose

I headed south

To New Orleans

Heard about good times on Bourbon Street

Food and drink

Out all the time

To a country boy that sounded pretty sweet

I indulged

A little much

Suppose that's where my troubles all began

I woke up

With an ugly girl

In retrospect I think she was a man

Chorus

I headed west

To Cal-i-forn-i-a

To find a wise man livin' by the sea

He hands out

Bits of wisdom

If you'll sit down with him and have some tea

I finally tracked

That old boy down

Somewhere outside of Malibu

The only thing

He said to me

Was "Listen friend you know there's nothin' new"

Chorus

I sat down

To collect my thoughts

A retrospective accounting of where I'd been

Lots of freaks

Had come and gone

And I consumed my share of bathtub gin

I realised

My state of mind

Isn't really connected to where I sit

So I packed my blues

Back in my case

And told myself "I think I better git"

Chorus x2

It's very difficult to evaluate just the song lyrics with out the context of the song it self.

If you have it recorded, post it.

You may have a winner, and the again you may not.

Seems kinda long and I actually hate songs with blues in the title

I wrote a song called "Stateline" once, it may be in my soundclick file.

It's about drinking at a bar that closes at 2am , and then heading up to NY, where the bars close at 4am

Here it is

No audio yet. I could sing it real loud. Maybe you could hear. :)

Pretty good. The plot is predictable and some of the lines are overly Dylanesque, but a solid effort.

Here are the lines I think are keepers.

Growin' up

In them sandy hills

You hear about the world's exotic places

Where people ride

In limousines

Or walk around with bull rings in their faces

My desire

To see these things

Has only led to heartache and despair...despair has a diff feel that I don't think sounds good..maybe thin hair

There's only one

Place left to see

Highway won't you please take me there?...take out please...no begging:)

Chorus

I got the Oklahoma state line blues

Been roamin' around trying to find a clue..take out clue...use shoe or something else.

I got the Oklahoma state line blues

Time to go home I got nothin' left to lose

not sure of this whole third verse...will think on it unless you love it

I headed west...To Cal-i-forn-i-a

To find a wise man livin' by the sea

He hands out

Bits of wisdom

If you'll sit down with him and have some tea
