Mmmm Yeah....! Forgive me, i just like to add a thread and see what happens!

It's a hard one (no pun intended). If i had to pic one it would probably be "need your love so bad" by Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac. So calm down folks... No James Brown... Like a Sex machine... That's for another thread!!!

[waves moderator hat over his head as though to put it on...]

:cop: Let's keep the focus on songwriting, eh? This is an on-topic only forum.

Lee's got the right idea, talk about what makes a good boudoir ballad... if you want to cite examples, well then, there ya go.

But let's go through the motions -- and that way -- when I have to deal with spammers or other trouble makers -- they won't be able to say, "Well, gee, how come you don't bust your buddies?"

Anyhow, that's my thinkin'. Keep the rules consistent and consistently enforced and no one can complain. (Yeah, uh huh. :D )

It'd be a shame for this forum to turn into Open Jam or something. Open Jam already does that so... thoroughly. :D

to bring it to songcraft:

i find it interesting that most of the tunes mentioned thusfar include lyrical references to the antler dance, do lyrics need to be Sexual in order to be Sexy?

and just to toss it on the fire: AfroCelt SoundSystem has some great beats for the beat.

and "Feel Like Makin' Love" is a killer seduction song. hangin' out on a hill under a tree with a bird all wide eyed and eager

Prince has a way of making sex a religious thing. And he gets real sacrilegious when he does that. Pretty clever guy, that Prince. So he gets his Linn drum machine pumping to sound like sex, then he creates an environment that is...

...how do you say it delicately... that is like he's praying at the alter of {censored}.

On his knees begging for salvation. But his god is not the one talked about in the Bible or the Bhagavad Gita. It the one between his lover's legs.

Marvin seemed to be trying to convince. It's natural girl. It's what we were born for.

Two different approaches. Both powerful primal yet transcendent feelings that men and women relate to. And then there's the Starland Vocal Band...

Has anyone mentioned Jimmy Buffet's "Why Don't We Get Drunk and Screw"?

It was "our song" between me and one semi-long term GF (what passed for long term in the 70s anyhow, a couple years). We found it on a jukebox in this one, really run down dive bar (she was a rich girl, so, natch, she had a thing for dives) on our first, er, date. It was prescient in a way that both of us surely recognized but which neither of us came out and expressed...

And on the topic of the elements that gave it the sexually intoxicating effect, I think it was the amusingly overt frankness of the lyrics, particularly the chorus of "Why don't we..." etc.

Of course, cultural context is key... It was an era when a mellow, country oriented artist like Maria Muldaur could have a radio hit with a song like, "It Ain't the Meat (It's the Motion)."

Like Leonard Cohen in "Light as a Breeze", on the album "The Future"

There's blood on every bracelet

you can see it, you can taste it,

and it's Please baby

please baby please.

And she says, Drink deeply, pilgrim

but don't forget there's still a woman

beneath this

resplendent chemise.

I just went and found that lyric. It's incredible:

"Light As The Breeze"

She stands before you naked

you can see it, you can taste it,

and she comes to you light as the breeze.

Now you can drink it or you can nurse it,

it don't matter how you worship

as long as you're

down on your knees.

So I knelt there at the delta,

at the alpha and the omega,

at the cradle of the river and the seas.

And like a blessing come from heaven

for something like a second

I was healed and my heart

was at ease.

O baby I waited

so long for your kiss

for something to happen,

oh something like this.

And you're weak and you're harmless

and you're sleeping in your harness

and the wind going wild

in the trees,

and it ain't exactly prison

but you'll never be forgiven

for whatever you've done

with the keys.

O baby I waited ...

It's dark now and it's snowing

O my love I must be going,

The river has started to freeze.

And I'm sick of pretending

I'm broken from bending

I've lived too long on my knees.

Then she dances so graceful

and your heart's hard and hateful

and she's naked

but that's just a tease.

And you turn in disgust

from your hatred and from your love

and comes to you

light as the breeze.

O baby I waited ...

There's blood on every bracelet

you can see it, you can taste it,

and it's Please baby

please baby please.

And she says, Drink deeply, pilgrim

but don't forget there's still a woman

beneath this

resplendent chemise.

So I knelt there at the delta,

at the alpha and the omega,

I knelt there like one who believes.

And the blessings come from heaven

and for something like a second

I'm cured and my heart

is at ease
