Here's this month's Official Showcase Thread where you can post your completed projects, links to finished works you want your pals here in the SW forum to hear, promo videos, or just generally shameless self-hype that you're far too professional and courteous to post in the main forum.

POST 'EM IF YOU GOT 'EM!

I finished the RPM Challenge with fourteen tunes and just over 41 minutes! If I can just get it in the mail today, I'll be golden!

I also started a song blog -- see sig. Wanted to get some of the songs off my computer and have a one-stop place to go for demos and lyric sheets. Soundclick has a widget that can be posted inside Blogger. My plan is to have one widget plus lyric sheets per month. I've got February all up, but Nov-Jan still needs lyric sheets. Gonna be slow going for Dec, for I wrote 36 tunes. The widgets for those months are up.

If anyone's got one, let's link up. I'll check some sigs, too.

Sorry mods - I had this in the main forum, hope this is the right place for it. I recorded an album at home last year. This is one of the last songs I wrote and recorded for it.

Listen: http://music.metafilter.com/2599/The...Must-Come-Down

Lyrics:

Verse:

The ice has been broken by the storm that blows in from the North.

And I sleep as you work your shift and come home so early in the morning.

The air has left your tires, your tiredness is coming like a fog.

Pre-chorus:

The kingdom must come down

The kingdom must come down, now

Chorus:

Find me. My thoughts are dark.

And I lie all the time.

And we're sideways, this world is dark

But there's a light, given time.

Verse:

I picture you in white hallways with half dead children pulling at your hair

And I should be sleeping but I know that we're broken in half

So come back home to New York

Comeback home and we can start again.

Pre-Chorus:

The kingdom must come down

The kingdom must come down, now

Chorus:

Find me. My thoughts are dark.

And I lie all the time.

And we're sideways, this world is dark

But there's a light, given time.

Bridge:

And those suicide machines

of the hospitals in your dreams

They are not real they are not mine

Chorus:

Find me. My thoughts are dark.

And I lie all the time.

And we're sideways, this world is dark

But there's a light, given time.

There's a light in your eyes

Good gawsh!

I, like, wrote one song, and it sucked.

Nobody likes a showboat, you know!

:D

[And, hey, look at you with that middle break in "Seasonal Blues," nice step off from a Robert Johnson kind of thang! :) ]

One thing I've learned about writing so many songs in one month ... you end up with a lot of songs. No telling if they're gonna be good or bad. Some sound good now, some sound bad now. Time will tell. A few have made it to my sets, but most will probably collect some cyber dust.

I tried to steal as much as possible in Seasonal Blues. ;) What's the old saying ... plagiarism is taking from one source, research is taking from two. Not sure what you'd call three. Creative license maybe?

Thanks for checking out the blog! :)

I've been screwing around with this song in my head for a long time.

It's the kind of thing I normally compose EXCEPT, note the chord pattern.

What I always remember about "Cherish" by the Association, is that it has

four parts verse, refrain, bridge & second bridge. Yet, it's melodic.

I've tried to do that a couple of times, writing 4,5, even 6 part songs that keep

a strong melody. This is my strongest showing yet. There are maybe 5 or 6

different sections to the song. I don't know exactly how to count all of them.

But they are all centered around the same melodic idea.

Hey,

I posted here a few times while getting my first demos together and found the feedback really lovely and helpful. I've put out an EP now, and it's getting some good responses - I wonder what you guys will think of it?

It can be listened in full here:
