Thirty years later.....still not complete

Yeah.....that's right. I wrote this tune thirty years ago and while it never gets played exactly the same way, I've been singing it pretty much like this for all that time. I guess this one has always been my security blanket.......if there's nothing else there, I can count on this.

But.....it has never felt quite done. Always something missing.

When I put up a couple of mics to hear what my new guitar sounds like I reached for my security blanket and it came out like this........

Rodeo (Demo)

Seasons change

Yeah they come and they go

Life is kind of strange

It's like riding in a rodeo

When you come down hard

You get on up for more

When you come down hard

Life is like a river

You can steer but you can't control

Its warm at the top

But at the bottom it can sure get cold

You got to get down to the sea

Before you get too old

You got to get down to the sea

Somehow

I knew she was leaving

I knew she had to go

But waiting for the words

Was like waiting for the sheriff to show

When she finally left

I held the door

'Cause when you come down hard

You got to get on up for more

When you come down hard

You got to get on up

For more

Repeat first verse

It may never feel complete, I guess, but perhaps one of you can find that last little piece........

........oh, and I don't suppose anybody wants to see any more pix of my new guitar. Don't you just hate it when those baby pictures just keep coming?;)

You play a fretless bass? What kind? I play a fretless Warwick thumb bass which is like sex with your favorite porn star... (without the STDs). I still want to be you when I grow up...

"We gotta get back to the sea somehow" :-) One of my favorites? Jackson Browne?

Waiting for the words was like waiting to do some blow... (think about it)

I listened twice... I really respect you as a performer/song writer. And that speaks volumes, because I'm the most talented mother f*cker I've ever known... And I've known a few.

I would through some harmonies on this song.. Nice ones... I hear them in my head? And some people tell me I'm a singer?

You know, it's really cool and weird to think that this song...still not 100% finished in your mind, was written before the internet, mobile phones, bad reality TV, when I was maybe 2 years old and couldn't even talk yet, let alone write my own songs! That just blows my mind and makes me feel good, for some reason.

Love the song by the way. lol

Interesting.....when I first played this song...and I remember when this one came....I sang that 'rodayo' thing and I thought it sounded so cool. It seemed, at the time to add some sort of different dimension to the word. Figures, Marshal, that you'd pick up on that.

I would offer to help but given my predisposition

I don't think I'd be much help.

Now I've heard your snippets, man.......you bring a sense of immediacy to the table along with a penchant for honest introspection. It wouldn't hurt my writing to be able to tap into some of that.

It did, . . . , 30 years ago. ;)

Now it's just dated.

It's done. Don't mess with your security blanket.

Another good one, Lenny.

Thanks, Ram.......but I'm afraid it's too late.

A rainy day drove me into the studio where I tracked a string section, some BVox and a little electric guit in the break. Hope I didn't mess it up too badly. I post it up again over the weekend and I hope you'll let me know.

I even tried to sing the vocal .......differently. Fail. (Sorry, Marshal)

Don't worry, grace, UR very astute in your observation about how much has changed since this song's conception. This particular song is one of the very few things that has remained constant in my life over all of those years.

Oh, I always had a colour TV, but I remember our first VCR. The remote was ATTACHED by a very SHORT cable to the VCR machine!! HAHA! The point of a remote is...what exactly? lol

Lenny remembers when they "got" a TV! I like the remix Lenny. I would tighten and do the harmonies a little differently, but it sounds good :-)

Here's a remix of this tune..........

Once again, thanks to all of you for your amazing assistance.

Rodeo

I love the remix Leonard!

Especially the harmonies of your voice,

then there's the sweet solo guitar playing along:thu:

I also dig the strings, they add just the right depth.

Would you be willing to add drums? :):):)

Hmmmm.......I have been considering some sort of percussion for this one. I have avoided doing my standard version of canned drums for a while in the interest of keeping things real, but..........

Let's see what happens this weekend. Thanks for checking it out again and for this gentle nudge.

Hey, Robby.........I saw The Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show.......black and white in those days.

I saw them too! Maybe I watched them on that first black and white TV that you got!:love:

The remix is great. I'm on the fence about drums. The rhythm is nicely irregular and kept by your new guitar, accented occasionally by the piano. I like that.

The Beatles! Those were the days, right?

Lenny, I remember that song, and the wood stove. I love that it is your security blanket.
