Christmas Eve Friday Influences!

I was watching Glee the other night (the "Never Been Kissed" episode) and saw that they'd 'borrowed' many of the ideas for the version of Bob Marley's "One Love" they did on the episode from these guys (look for Manu Chao, Keb Mo' -- and a whole lot of very good folks you've probably never heard of). See which you think has more soul...

The Glee rip on it starts a little after 8'40": http://www.hulu.com/watch/188956/glee-never-been-kissed#x-0,vepisode,1,0 -- if you can fight your way through the obnoxious onslaught of commercials. [Warning: like almost everything on Glee, you're going to be assualted by some very clumsy vocal retuning.]

These guys just can't keep from singing... the came up singing on the streets and were originally signed to record by Frank Zappa.

That is wild!

Clearly one of the great brother acts that never was... this is really great. I mean, really. How old is that recording?

EDIT: Looks like it was done while E&J were together in their early band, The Great Believers: http://www.vinylrecords.ch/winter/Band/winter_band_greatbelievers.htm (originally called Amos Boynton and The ABCs)

Here's a fairly different (and mono) version that sounds a lot more like what one would expect from them (Johnny's characteristic growl is prominent, the guitar is a lot more like what we're use to from him, and there's a characterisitc sax solo from very Edgar):

It's really great, actually... and I like the original far better than their remake -- like so many of the old school outfits, they had it right the first time. That said, I'm sure it was fun getting together to do the remake, whenever that was [sounded 70s] and it's certainly nice to hear the Winter boys get together. They're too talented -- if very different -- individuals. God love 'em both. ;)

B2B - those Persuasion clips were great! That was real music - real songwriting.

My old pal wrote my favorite Christmas song. Vince Vance has a real touch with lyrics.

You hear this on Country stations a lot down South.[video=youtube;I1VkMBi9vvw]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I1VkMBi9vvw

I recorded my own version of 'White Christmas' this year. I finished it up Christmas Eve.

I was trying for Fats Domino style. It came out a lot different.

But I had fun doing it.
