Steve Earle wrote this one at 49. Now well into his 50s, he continues to crank out amazing songs.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ELQ1ytpHiJc

Townes was 40 when he wrote this one. He died before recording another album. or he'd still be shaming all other songwriters. [video=youtube;Lk-zKjfO2E8]

Men are virile from 18-55 and beyond. Women, on the other hand, lose their desirable characteristics of the flesh after age 30.

I hope you're not doomed to live in the world as you apparently conceive it -- because that seems like it would doom you to a stunted, lonely existence of experiences as empty and shallow as you conceive them to be. Life, like water, seeks its own level.

How old are you and how many 40+ year old women have you slept with? and be honest I know that's the opposite of trolling but try it this once

If you wanna have an actual conversation, I'm game. If you wanna make stupid accusations and act like a sandy vagina, then I'm not gonna respond to your lame callouts.

To our posters that think that only younger women are desireable I would like you to think about the fact that older women have experience. And experience goes a long way. They can and do do things that can only be learned with time. Some things do get better with age , like wine.

And where younger women are for the most part better eye candy, the older ones are much more fun to "play" with.

But what do i know I am old. (42)

Probably. It's only natural for you old guys to staunchly defend your oldness, no matter how ridiculous it seems.

Juist because you appear to view social discourse and even discussion of artistic effort in terms of a schoolyard spitting contest, doesn't mean other people are similarly trapped in such a stunted, shallow approach.

You see, other folks often try to use discussions of the artistic impulse and its vagaries as a way of teasing out unrecognized or forgotten truths, rather than simply playing a childish game of oneupsmanship, hoping somehow to make points by 'winning' the argument.

My friend, it seems to me you lost the argument before you ever began, because you don't appear to have ever really engaged with it. You just staked out a position -- or rather took up that of your more voluble pal, DukeOfBoom, and since have appeared intent on trying to defend it without appearing to offer much of any insights to support it.

It's only the two of them from what I've seen... This is what happens when a young man spends to much time on the internet watching porn instead of living life

Yall are crazy and/or liars if you really think some old bag is a better catch than a 20-25 yr old. I'm not talking about marriage here. I'm talking plaything. Bone and disown.

you probably play solid state amps dont you?

You're done here.

You were warned about precisely that kind of behavior.

Lengthy, rambling, passive-aggresive posts like that are why I don't "engage" too deeply with the soapbox crowd. You guys are just as guilty as what you accuse me of, and it's worse because you hide behind fake niceties and political correctness. You're not open to having your minds changed. You just wanna play the age card. Woohoo! Old guys rule!

Anyway, Duke aint my buddy. I'm sure he's just some dumb kid. I just agree with him on this one.

Can I post now?

Why can someone call me a troll simply because he disagrees with me?

Let me say this on your way out the door -- I actually think there's a lot of merit to the notion that many songwriters do their best work young, as I pointed out earlier. That said, I don't think you or Duke have offered much evidence or any real insights into that.

Do you listen to music at all? It's pretty common for a band or artist to do their best work in their youth.

Did you read the thread at all? I think everyone here pretty much agreed with that.

Except Beethoven's 9th. Or Bach's later work. Or Miles. Or Steve Earl. Or George Gershwin. It's not an either or proposition. Or Doc Watson. Or Johnny Cash.

OK... let's all leave all that behind.

In fact, I think we can safely leave this thread behind.

[UPDATE: And for those of you who just want to see everybody happy, let me hasten to say that Greg_L and I have just concluded a series of PMs that moved from contention to what seems like genuine congeniality. So, when Greg feels like he wants to come back, I'm sure that things will go a lot better. Honestly, I think it just takes a while to get used to the way we try to do things here in the SW forum. And I can understand that. ;) ]

You know, this Duke guy sure spends a lot of time/energy trying to puzzle together this (admittedly baffling) age/sexuality situation.

Because, ya know, all those sexually virile 20-something songwriters spent most of their time harassing 40 year olds on the internet about how unappealing old women are.

My advice to Duke is this: youth is fleeting. But I think, if you maybe spent less of your precious youth obsessively defending the sexual attractiveness of 25 year old women, you could possibly sing an entire musical phrase without flailing woefully out of key by the time you're 30.
