[bsp = blatant self-promotion]

No news too trivial, no bragging right too small. Whether your latest triumph was a multi-album deal or a good night at your local open mic -- there's room to talk about it here... :)

Here's this month's Official Showcase Thread where you can post your completed projects, links to finished works (even old ones) you want your pals here in the SW forum to hear, promo videos, covers of other people's songs, or just generally shameless self-hype that you're far too professional and courteous to post in the main forum.

I wrote this tune 3 years ago and won a composition contest with it. I got to meet a renowned keyboardist of my country and record in his studio as a prize, and then play my tune live! It was an amazing experience. The tune is fully instrumental.

Hope you enjoy it!

Whew!
My hand cramped up just watching.
:D

Some fine playing and one cooking band
!
I liked the jazzy guitar breaks best and those wild chord arpeggios.

:thu:

Not to mention that amazing drum work.

I guess this qualifies as shameless self-promotion. Not really a polished work, but I'm not actively working on it any more either. The title (79 Days) came to me when I glanced at the Julian date on my calendar during a busy day at work.

http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=10718218

Lyrics:

Seventy-nine days

Is it really late March already?

Each day's work goes by in a thick haze

I don't really remember what I did yesterday

But it seemed sort of important at the time

People have their ways

Do we need so many VIPs?

Each one screams about his own little emergency

They all wonder why I don't see the urgency

They score their points off the crisis of the day

Chorus:

But I'll go home at four-thirty and I won't give a thought

To the self-important people and the power they bought

By selling their souls to the influence machine

I don't have any pull, but my evenings are free

It's really not my place

To spend Saturday morning at the office

To you my attitude may seem downright lazy

But to me your dedication seems really crazy

They'll take your very last hour if you let them

(Chorus)

Each day goes by

Don't you stop and wonder why

Seventy-nine days

Two hundred eighty-four to go

No one will remember what I did when they're gone

So I'll spend each one my way before I move on

'Cause nothing's more important than my time

(Chorus)

No, I don't have any pull, but my conscience is clean

Yeah, nothing's more important than my time

Not sure if this really even counts as a finished product, but by amateur 17-year-old recorded-in-bedroom standards it does.

Lyrics:

If I'm just a vessel

For something to stay

Let me roll over

To this hole that I've made

If you're just a piece

Of what is to be

Let you lay me down

For no one to see

And it's not what you're thinking

That it's only cries of pain

No, it's the tale of a bittersweet existence

We're each just the same

Come in with the whimper

Leave with a sigh

The poets they try to tell us

But the words only lie

So it's not what you're thinking,

That it's only cries of pain.

No, it's the tale of a bittersweet existence

We're each just the same

It's a bittersweet, bittersweet thing

Living so close to the truth

Halfway across these unfinished bridges

Looking for

You

And all that remains

Is an undying, quiet hope

Hope that time will press on the same

And to know, once, that I spoke

If I'm just a vessel

For something to stay

Let it all roll us under

Let it all fade away....

Fade away

So I'm getting ready to sing at the Metropolitan Room in Manhattan, as part of their Metrostar contest.

I'm meeting with the pianist this afternoon to go over my one song. Then I'll be singing tonight. There'll be 12 of us for this first round of competition.

Here's the song I'm thinking of doing (in Ab, with fewer verses).

"Love Is a Dangerous Thing"

Introductory verse:

Seems like love has always got

your heart right over a barrel.

And though this new chick's hot

your evening's fraught with peril.

Right now it seems you could live on dreams

but life's no seaside resort.

Long story short, this song is sort

of a down-to-earth travel report.

It's a dangerous night to be flying

with the stars burning bright in her eyes.

And those she's cute pack a big parachute--

just a word to the wise.

It's a treacherous stretch of the highway,

a switchback that circles and snakes.

yet 'round every curve you just punch it and swerve

as if you never heard of the brakes.

Bridge:

All hail the incredible feeling

to sail out where stars never end.

But talk about grief, when that ship hits the reef,

you'll soon be drowning my friend.

You're engaging in risky behavior

each time that you kiss and you cling.

Yes, flirting is fun when you do it and run

but love is a dangerous thing.

(piano solo)

2nd Bridge:

Still it feels great to be breathless,

that thrill that cuts straight to the bone,

wondering when you will see her again

and not straying too far from the phone.

No, no, those are desperate dreams to be dreaming

despite all it seems they might bring.

They seldom come true, then again when they do

they bring you a new song to swing!

Just don't count on happiness

love is a dangerous thing!

Thanks, guys. My face is red (is my face red?)...

I was supposed to sing last night, but got the dates screwed up.

They gave me a do-over, though, and are letting me compete with next week's group.

Yeesh. I must have a lot of unconscious reluctance to do this...

Not bad for a rigid, non-dancing white boy, huh?
;)

Very nice Mr Bee - like this a lot!

I came here to post an instrumental too which is odd..... just something i did yesterday for a commercial pitch.... thought id post it as its a bit different..... not as much movement as what you have done... but this was kinda to a brief

I ended up finding a used ADK a51 TC which got reviews on par with the rode NTK. I'm now planning a small home studio and have met with my construction guy/handy man. I've just bought a dedicated iMac and a digidesign rack 003 with ProTools. Next up is a preamp, stereo condenser mics, a dedicated hard drive, and potentially a compressor.

Off topic here, but I'm in India at the moment and I'm all backwards... Both from jet lag and culturally. The poverty is astonishing. This is the view from my window.

You are looking at tin structure housing.

I have a guitar with me, so I'm focusing on songwriting.
