Members Slaymoar
Which pins can I use that are not connected on the socket? With a 6L6, you get pins 1 and 6, what about EL84's? Are they all used?

Members Slaymoar
http://lib.store.yahoo.net/lib/thetubestore/JJ-EL84.pdf Hmm... but some diagrams show them as "I.C" or "inter connected"? I'm a noob when it comes to it.. I guess i'd be looking for an old amp that uses these free pins with a resistor or something.. ? -D
Members NixerX
The diagram shows pins 1-6 as NC. Am I misunderstanding your question? it is early. Zzzzzz
Members VanR
Careful if you use those unused pins as tie points for resistors etc. you won't be able to use some NOS EL84's as some of the older EL84's have pin one internally connected. Read this:http://kcanostubes.com/categories/87/1/EL84.htm I like to mount a terminal strip close to the sockets for screen resistor and grid stopper. Members igge
The tube data sheets that show IC means Internally Connected. The electrodes are connected inside the tube. In the EL84 you can see that the cathode and suppressor grid are internally connected before going to pin 3. Pins 1, 6 and 8 are not used on the EL84, so feel free to use them as extra solder-supports for caps and resistors.

This is not completely true. Some of the older EL84 do have an internal connection on pin 1. If you are gonna run only new production tubes you will be fine, but lets say you find a set of old EI EL84's you will have trouble. Once again read Mike's warning about using pin 1 as a tie point.http://kcanostubes.com/categories/87/1/EL84.htm
Members coco
Old thread, but I think you can use pin 8, but not pin 1. Any concerns on that?
