Members groovelift 0
I've heard great things about these and I've been wanting one for my rack to replace my Voodu-Valve but these things are going for around $3K used. Anyone familiar with them? Convince me to drop the cash (or not) because I'm ready to pull the trigger on one.
Members grunge782 0
From what I have heard, not really. But I haven't played one so I can't really speak.
Members zehn 0
Yes totally, if they fit your style. They're generally regarded as one of the best rack preamps every made. They aren't for metal, at least not boosted. You should shoot Tornado of Souls a pm, he used to have one.

Members sahlomonic 0
I hear you have to have the "Jerry Cantrell mod" to have them really shine.

Members Sixtonoize 4
You will fit in well here. And based on the tones I've heard, the Fish would be great for Prog rock and blues.

Members TornadoOfSouls 0
Blues/Classic Rock? Definitely. It's an amazing sounding preamp. It couldn't pull off the type of music I was playing but everything else was pure incredible.

Members jbandy10 0
It's not really any "better" than the budget tube stuff. But if you want that 10% extra in your tone search, go ahead and blow the extra $2000. Simply ask yourself, is a 10% increase in tone worth $2000? If the answer is yes. Then buy it,

Members jbandy10 0
That's true. But a Triaxis is just as versatile. And it's $1000. Sure the Fish is probably a slightly better quality amp. But just slightly. I'm not saying you're dumb to buy it. Not at all.

Idk, I've played a Triaxis and it didn't come close to what the Fish does for me...but, that's just my preference.
Members rushtallica 15
From what I have heard, not really. But I haven't played one so I can't really speak. That's my take. Also, it's probably worth hearing that amp in a typical club or recording mix compared to some other good but cheaper amps to see if the tones are even much distinguishable once surrounded by bass, drums, vocals, and possibly another guitar. Members SteinbergerHack 10,893
Most high priced gear is not worth the money. orly? How much high-end gear have you actually gigged with? OP - I have the XTC, which is supposedly very similar to the Fish. Frankly, I have never played through anything that's even remotely close to this amp - it's incredible. That said, it has a unique character that hits people different ways - it's very thick and smooth, but lets the details of your playing through (including that sloppy stuff you might not enjoy hearing at first). If I could justify the $$$, I'd try to get a Fish to do a rack version of my current rig - just to make it easier to carry. I think my wife would leave me.....
