We were there in the morning because Peter had to get some strings and what not and spotted it. Later that night were were in the la mesa area (in san diego california). But yeah we did go in there looking for a used bassman because we had seen one just hours ago.

San Diego

Nice score on the vtm

The fa bald {censored} WAS the manager. We werent there for a couple of hours we were there for about 1:30. We also werent just standing around, we started playing a bit in store but were were about 5 feet from where the head was.

I went to the San Diego GC when I was out there. They had quite a few nice pieces of gear, but their service was {censored}ing crap. No biggie, I played their amps and guitars, hooked the {censored} up myself in their little room (that they told me to keep the volume down) and did my own thing.

Didn't buy {censored}, or even talk to anyone after the original conversation. They weren't very welcoming to me even though I was the only one in the store at the time. Still...doesn't bother me, I just left. {censored} em...

Sometimes I like the lack of service, though. I just roll in and play whatever I want without having to ask.

No kidding. Don't know why some dudes can't seem to try out gear.

I've never been told I can;t try out gear or given {censored}ty {censored}. I don't get it.

Maybe I treat THEM with some respect? Maybe because I LOOK like I belong to TGP they think I can afford gear and not just demo-ing or jamming on their new gear? :idk:

Most of the time I just ask for guitars and cables...no problem.

This is the key to being treated well ... not only at GC, in life.:thu:

As a follow up we went back plugged the son of a bitch in it worked and we bought it the next day. Also I plugged in a 6505+ that I was playing at maybe t.v. volumes and baldy comes over and gets on my case about it I lol'd hard and turned it down. I lol'd cause guitar center is probably the only place on the planet where they would call a customer "Bro".

After you lol'ed at him...you should have politely turned the guitar volume off, feigned turning it down...then when he walked away, cranked the {censored}er, set the guitar on the ground, strum the strings real hard, turn the volume back up...and walk out of the store.

Again...{censored} em if they don't want to sell gear to people with cash.

Your doing it wrong:facepalm:

NEVER ask to play something. Your a musician, play the instruments.

NEVER ask a floor salesperson a question. If you hang out out here, and you don't already know the answer... yooz got bigger problems than the douche with the name tag.

NEVER buy from a floor Salesperson.

I go and play whatever the {censored} I want, I've yet to be questioned or stopped. I then decide on what I want, (My own research) make sure the MANAGER contact person I have developed (Cmon, even a minor rapport with) is there and ready for me to come in and drop cash on something he's fetched for me.

Examples.

Guitar Center/Northridge CA- (Greg) Vintage Modern 100 watt head. Sourced from all stores in US for me, 5 year NEW amp warranty. $900 even. No tax. (I believe it's a Sacramento pro-room amp. No charge to ship to store for me. you say floor model amp, I say Vintage Moderns need a few hours in the saddle to be trusted. Thing is a peach!!)

Sam Ash/Hollywood- (Mitch) while buying a 3k mixer for my cousin from Argentina, and after him buying a Les Paul Faded, Mitch brought out from the back a real nice Les Paul Classic, (Vintage Sunburst) that I got for $1200 even. NO TAX> I had said I didn't like what he had on the floor, he made it happen for me.

Be nice. Develop a rapport with a manager. I know the OP bought something after all, but anyone else with a GC/Sam Ash bitch?....

Buy something nice once in a while you cheap {censored}.:poke:

$2100= Les Paul + 100 watt Marshall head.

Mediocre deals are mediocre man.
I could go into a pawn shop and get a better les paul and a jcm 800 for about 300$ less.
Also Nice stuff doesn't have to be expensive.

^ this. I hate people trying to help out half the time. I understand for some people, they need some help or whatever, but if I need it I'll ask. Once some guy (not at a guitar center, but a local place with similar service) hooked me up to play a peavey 6505 1x12 combo. I knew all about it and wanted to mess around, but insisted on tweaking the amp for me...gave me scooped mids. He also said it was a 2x12 combo when you could clearly see one speaker. After all this, he gave me his card. It said drum specialist .:facepalm:

(I'll answer this even though it was a silly rebuttal.)

I never have. Reason being, restaurants are everywhere. Typically, GC is the lone gunman in the realm of stocking so much equipment and having the option and again, the luxury of playing it. Sorry, but you went in there to look at a used bassman right? I watch on a near daily level a woman/man walk in there, no questions asked and buy 3-4,000 guitars, amps etc. They don't have to run around jumping through hoops if they don't want to. Trust me, you're not their biggest customer. Is that bad business? Sure, is it right? Who's to say. All I am saying is, stop bitching. It's boring. Shop elsewhere. Then, when you do and they don't have a selection, eat it and go right back there because lets be honest. You'll bitch all you want but if they had a deal soemone else didn't, you'd be right back there.

I worked for GC in 2002. I was the #8 sales person in the entire northeast from a small store. :thu: I think if you have a job you should do it. My job now makes me want to hate {censored} skulls but I do it and I do it well. No reason anyone should suck at their job if they expect to be paid.

Try spinning the situation to your advantage. Call one of them over, point out that this piece of used gear is obviously malfunctioning and ask them what they'll take for it as-is.....and you'll obviously need a significant discount since you'll obviously have to pay to have it repaired.

Doesn't cost anything to ask, and who knows...it could be that they won't want to deal with the hassle of getting it repaired, and they let it go a hundred bucks or less.

wah, piss, cry, moan.......

Don't go.

sorry but these I hate GC threads are fkn pointless. Anywhere in life you may find good/bad salesman, people, friends etc.

Someone hit the nail on the head. It's a luxury to be able to go to a store and play {censored}, they don't want to help you, do it yourself or leave.

The same mentality could be thrown back in your face.

You hate GC threads? Don't open and read them.

I go into my GC, ask for a cable, grab an SG Standard and then do whatever I want with the amps; move heads around to different cabs, reposition them if they're open backed, turn them around to look at the guts, etc. Sometimes someone will come over to see what I'm up to, so I just tell them what I'm doing and they say, "cool, let me know if you need anything." I think the trick is to occasionaly buy a high ticket item from them, then you'll get much better customer service. They remember me now, both the manager and the salesmen, and I get much better treatment than I used to. I used to hate GC, but now I have a better undstanding of what they're offering and I'm a much bolder person than I used to be...

That's how I do it too but that's also why everything in the store is broken and {censored}ed up. Some tool trying to do {censored} themselves and breaking everything.

Thought I would just add to this thread instead of staring a new one, same topic,  horrible interaction with Godin guitars,  a company that chooses not ro stand behind their product.

Hi and welcome to the Forum. Sorry but first, this thread is over 9 years old and second, it's about poor customer service at Guitar Center. If you want to complain about Godin's customer service you'll get a better reception if you start your own thread.

frankly, this kind of complaint, absent any specific details, is not only pointless, but defamatory. Would you please explain your issue and why you feel that Godin is 'not standing behind their product'?

Agreed - it would be far more helpful and informative if you shared the details about what happened.
