Members RUExp?
6CA7s are what EVH used in his Marshall. I've read that a lot of people in the U.S. used them in the '70s because they were cheaper and lasted longer than the EL34s available.
Members DrakkarTyrannis
If I wasn't so satisfied with my current tubes I'd try these. I've really been wanting to test those and the new JJ 6550s out
Members Stonedtone
I discovered that tube with my Univalve. I had my EL34 Rivera fitted with a set and it made the amp so much better. Not as aggressive on the gain, but much more articulate and clear

Big mids, yet clear, and not harsh at all.
Members tedmich
nice man! took them out of my old Hammond M3. replaced the ones in the hammond with cheap chinese ones.why did you chose GE over stock, they just sound better IMO hands down no doubt hahahah?even on ebay prices, the GE tubes ive seen altough ive never bought are considerably less expensive compare to Philips or Telefunken. you have to go against HiFi heads for Mullard/Amperex/Tellefunkin so the price is unreal, GE sound really good but the hifi guys would rather superglue smokinbuds in their ears than use GE/Sylvania. The store's owner is a total curmudgeon who WILL NOT sell stuff online, he regularly pulls vintage Telefunkin 12ax7s from signal generators and sells them for $5, but I have missed all of them. Members iNx
It is odd that the JJ 6CA7 is a Pentode. I bet it sounds great in EL-34 circuits. I've got 77's in my Rivera and mismatch the OT to get the impedance right. Love that tube, might have to try the 6CA7.
Members Disco Cat
+1 I picked up a NOS flat from Tektronix with 3 types of GE (12AX7, ECC83 and 12AX7A) at my local surplus (R5D3) for $3.00 each and sold the Ecc83 on the ebay for...cough cough... a bit more. Damns, is it pretty rare to find something like that?
Members tedmich
Damns, is it pretty rare to find something like that? not at R5D3, but I had to listen to Bob (the proprietor) tell a TON of off color stories before these came in. People DUMPED audio tubes in the 1970's and some collected them.

Members Viesczy
Great news about the 6CA7! That tube is just calling to me to drop into my EL34 amps to give more of the 6L6 vibe while still maintaining the EL34 grind. Derek
