How to tame the "fizz" from a dual rec?

The Recto cab can manage the boom of the low end better than the marshall cab and that can help you get rid of that fizzy tone. The greenbacks are killer speakers also.

I am sure a Mesa cab is good as well. I chose my Marshall because of the Greenies and it looks cool as hell.

Holy {censored} you seriously run your Presence and Treble THAT high and you're wondering why it's fizzy :freak:

The only thing that helped me was a Voodoo mod. I tried everything else. I've tweaked the amp every way imaginable and it was still there. When i would get it sounding less fizzy i would get totally lost in the mix.

Oh BTW Marshall cabs do add to the fizz...

Turn your presence down completely.

+1

ppl just wont listen

It's probably because that's not entirely accurate.

That amp is inherently fizzy with the prescence turned up, even the manual tells you to only put it as high as 2.

I don't care what speaker you have, if you set your presence high on this amp, it WILL be fizzy, unless your speaker has no response after, say, 6K.

V30's are a GREAT match for the recto line, one has to learn the amp. A speaker swap can be great too, but turning the volume up, gain down, and presence way down will yield great results.

I'm not saying you or anyone is "wrong", i'm just saying that you won't get rid of the ice-pick presence on this amp but JUST changing the speaker from a V30, you actually have to turn the presence and the gain down too.

Hey guys thanks again for the suggestions! I've tried some of the suggested settings from the manual(I did it before,but kept turning the treb & presence up) and gotta say, yes absolutley right...turn the presence down! I basically am using these settings now(bedroom levels) and will do more tweaking at band practice. One other thing, in my original post of my settings I had the ch3 presence at 3bells,but it was actually 9.

I know I'm resurrecting an old thread, but this is very important for those using one of the Rectifier amps and crank the pre gain. The Rectifier is a fizzy amp. Rectifiers NEED an EQ in the loop in order to sound best. Boss GE-7 or MXR 10 Band will work.

Here are the basic settings for the GE-7. Justification for these settings follows. Start with these settings and THEN ADJUST the knobs on your amp.

100 = -2 db

200 = 0 db

400 = -8 db

800 = -4 db

1.6 = -2 db

3.2 = 0 db

6.4 = -2 db

The lows 100 are cut slightly (-2 or -3 db) in order to prevent the power amp from farting out at loud volumes. I recommend the Triple Rectifier. The extra 50 watts help with thicker palm-mutes. At low volumes, you can increase 100 to +2 or +3 to thicken the sound when jamming by yourself to fill out the sound.

Mids are cut with 400 and 800. Always cut 400 twice as much as 800. Example = if 400 is -12 db, then 800 is -6 db. Cut the mids as little or as much as you want.

6.4 is cut to tame the fizz. You will want to cut anywhere from -1 to -3.

The knobs on the amp (Treble, Mid, Bass) are an interactive tone stack. So the setting of the Treble knob affects the center frequency and depth of the Mid and Bass. Play around with the Treble knob to figure out where you want the overall sound to be. Don't use the Treble knob to adjust treble. Use the EQ in the effects loop to adjust Treble.

Mids should primarily be set with the EQ in the effects loop. The Mid knob can be adjusted to make small changes in the sound.

Lows should primarily be adjusted with the EQ in the effects loop. Adjust the Low knob to taste.

After everything is set up, adjust the Presence knob until it sound crisp and clear.

Additional note: You can crank the amp to get some power amp distortion, which rounds out the highs and gets rid of the fizz, but that will damage your ears.

Can someone please give me some tips on taming the fizz from a Dual Rec?

The "fizz" really helps guitars cut through a mix. Turn down the presence and treble if it bothers you. When I play dual recs I set everything to 5 and I'm happy.
