Members Conker985 Posted June 7, 2013 Members Posted June 7, 2013 So three days ago i walked into a pawn shop and saw a Peavey Ultra Plus staring me in the face as i walked in. Bought it for $380 in excellent condition. I play all sorts of music from jazz, blues, a little country, hard rock, and metal. Probly could have gotten it down another 100 but oh well. BUT it needs new tubes. So i bring this monster home to try it out. I currently have a 6505+ and the Ultra Plus is taking it's place! I wanted something that was more versatle and something with a descent clean channel that wasn't harsh. The ultra is simply a much better tone monster IMO. Not as much gain as the 6505+ but has plenty enough for me(I keep it at 7 or 8 usually which is a ton i think). On my 6505+ i would usually have the gain around 4 or 5. Yea i'm sure someone playing brutal death metal would look elseware though. Perfect rock and thrash amp for sure. Oh and the clean channel is pretty amazing on this amp to. I play with a MIM telecaster and a Schecter C1 and the cleans sound nice on both guitars. It's pretty warm IMO but no Fender. Anyone use a Peavey Ultra series? Any recommendations on making it sound better? I hear people use the BBE sonic maximizer, a tubescreamer, and of course a noise gate. Thanks for any input.
Members HKSblade2 Posted June 7, 2013 Members Posted June 7, 2013 I like the UP better than the 6505. Just seems to cut better and not as hollowed out.
Members martyr40 Posted June 16, 2013 Members Posted June 16, 2013 I got an Ultra 60/2x12 that I keep in the gear trailer as a back up, but for years it was my main rig. I've got a 6505+ that I keep in my basement for rehearsal and a Triple X that's my main rig. Love the Ultra Series
Members Conker985 Posted June 25, 2013 Author Members Posted June 25, 2013 why do you use it for back up? IMO the ultra can achieve anyting. Many more tones than 6505.
