Members WittyMonikerHere Posted September 10, 2013 Members Posted September 10, 2013 So I got to try the 15 watt head and the 40 watt combo in the stores and think they sound awesome. Obviously, the 40c is a bit better because of the resonance knob and reverb, but I don't have any need for a combo right now. In a perfect world, I'd love it if they could fit that 40 watt combo in a Carvin V3 or TubeMeister head config, but alas.. Which made me wonder, do you think its ever worth buying a combo amp and just gutting it so that it becomes a small head? Anyone every try this? Worth it? Or do you think its just a matter of time until Marshall builds a head in between 15 and 100 watts(!).
Members thom Posted September 10, 2013 Members Posted September 10, 2013 If you're really set on that amp, you really want to turn it into a head, and you don't mind the costs and trouble doing it...Go for it.Mpo though: There's probably more than enough other amps out there that do the same thing -if not better- and come as a head. It'd also probably be cheaper, and you won't have to f*ck with your amp's resale value.
Members VTEC_Dreams Posted September 10, 2013 Members Posted September 10, 2013 Every combo I've ever had has had outs for a cab extension, and I've used them on every one. I don't think it's a terrible idea to buy the combo and run a cord to a big cab. It's not *that* much more work to haul around than just using a head, and you get the perk of having something really easy to record with, especially if it's just a 1 speaker combo. Every head I've owned has been at least as big and difficult as a combo amp.
