Members Craggle Posted June 8, 2006 Members Posted June 8, 2006 Hi, i'm thinking of getting a Rivera Chubster 40, can i have opinions please, i'd ideally want the clean channel to break up or sound gritty live, is this possible? Is the dirty channel much use? Would i need a seperate distortion pedal, or not, want good quality drive Bit brief, hope gives you an idea, of what i'm after...I'm in Uk btw
Members Purplexi Posted June 8, 2006 Members Posted June 8, 2006 It's a damn fine little combo for your needs.Put an OD pedal out front and you should be able to cover anything short of death metal.Enjoy!
Members texblooz Posted June 8, 2006 Members Posted June 8, 2006 I tried a Chubster 40 recently and really liked both channels. The overdrive channel was very useable and had a good amount of gain. If you want to push the clean channel a bit, I think it would sound great with a Fulltone OCD.
Members hal9000 Posted June 8, 2006 Members Posted June 8, 2006 I have almost the same amp, R55-12, with the only differences being the lower power and deeper cabinet on the Chubster. I think it is a great amp and very versatile. There are some easy mods to get the Ninja (channel 2) and boost (channel 1) with an adjustable volume so that you have four footswitchable sounds. The way I describe the clean channel is that it can sound Blackface or Tweed depending on the mid knob push/pull, and when you crank it up in tweed mode, it's Plexi city. Channel 1 for overdrive takes up where channel 2 left off in a nice Plexi tone and moves on up through JCM 800 levels of gain. With a boost this amp screams and has one of the best power tube distortion sounds I've heard.
Members Craggle Posted June 9, 2006 Author Members Posted June 9, 2006 Thanks guys I've been thru many amps, searching for the one that will do crunchy clean, and good dirty, i've not found one that fits my bill as yet, got a good feeling a Rivera will Apart from the Chubster 40, i'd also be trying a Clubster 45, as these are in my price range..Only problem is, being in the Uk, dealers are hard to find... Do any of you guys have an opinion on their reliability? are they up to gigging 3-4 times per week, in and out of a van etc? Thanks.

My R55-1 is a tank. That's one of the great things about Rivera is the excellent build quality. The fit and finish is up there with the best amplifiers and I wouldn't hesitate to gig it every day if need be.
Members Craggle Posted July 10, 2006 Author Members Posted July 10, 2006 Have any of you tried a Clubster 25 at all? any opinions on these? loud enough on stage etc??
Members dmhi11 Posted December 3, 2013 Members Posted December 3, 2013 I have the R30 which is pretty much in the same family as the clubster. I have played a clubster before, specifically the clubster royale and I really liked it. The Rivera has been my go-to amp for the better part of 5 years. They are a steal on the used market.
