Marshall MS-2 lights up but no sound

Hey,

I have one of those mini-Marshall battery powered belt clip on amps. I bought it, it worked for awhile then one time while plugged in I dropped it and it stopped working

 

It still lights up, any idea what's wrong with it? I thought maybe I blew the speaker, but I don't get anything from the headphone jack either.

Any ideas? or should I just toss this paperweight.

You might have to resolder the input jack connections; I had to do this once.

Not much way to know without at least opening it up and looking and poking around a bit.

 

If you had it plugged in when it hit, the IN/OUT jacks are likely problem points. The battery is fairly heavy so it may have banged something when it hit. Look for a crack on the board, or a broken solder joint. Take a toothpick or other small non-metallic tool and gently poke and prod components with it turned on - listen for intermittent sound. If you get noise when you push on a particular connection, that's likely to be the problem point.

Thanks for the info. I had it plugged in and remember it hit front first, so sounds like an input jack. I'll poke around at it tomorrow and let you know if it's the input jack.

The knobs and jack likely mount on the board and most likely have a cracked solder joint that need resoldering.
