Members 4sidedoctagon Posted January 7, 2004 Members Posted January 7, 2004 Since im new to the whole expensive guitar thing (at least its expensive to me) what is the best way I can care for my martin? after playing what should I do? I don't want to ruin the neck because my hands to tend to get a bit sweaty as I play pretty fast rhythem music and slide along the neck alot. Should I get a humidifier for my guitar? What are some overall things I should do to take care of the guitar itself? thanks.
Members Carle Posted January 7, 2004 Members Posted January 7, 2004 Get a soft cotton rag and wipe the neck and strings off after each tune if you are sweating. Always wipe the neck and guitar off before putting it away. Get some Martin polish and a polishing cloth and polish it once a month. Keep the humidity between 40and 55 %. Change strings once a month. I use Johnson Lemon Pledge on the strings but DO NOT GET PLEDGE ON THE FRETBOARD OR BODY. the pledge has silicone in it. I put newspaper between the strings and fretboard to lube the strings up. I have a piece of plastic I use now. Spray the pledge on a small rag and wipe it on the strings. That will make the strings last longer if you have trouble with rusting strings. Play the guitar and have fun.
Members infoghost Posted January 7, 2004 Members Posted January 7, 2004 I highly recommend Googalies. http://www.googalies.com/ They are pretty cheap, and they will get the order right out to you. They also make a polish, which I have not tried, but Littlebrother recommends it, and that is good enough for me.

Members Qengho Posted January 7, 2004 Members Posted January 7, 2004 1. Wipe it off after every session, as others have recommended. 2. Keep it in the case when not in use. 3. Use a case humidifier in winter, or year-round if you live in a very dry climate.
