Guitar of the day

Today I visited my favourite guitar store. Played a whole lot of great guitars. Martin, Larivee, Taylor - even a Doyle Dykes signature $8299 !!! Some beautiful handmade acoustics by Jim Williams & Gerard Gilet. Then Paul, who runs the store, handed me a Yamaha custom and said "This one impressed me". Hell it impressed me too. I commented that it sounded like an old Martin and he said "yeah like a good one."

Who would have thought that Yamaha could hold their own in that sort of company? Moral of the story is don't get obsessed by brands, all guitars are not made equal.

I agree and this thought has been expressed many times here. Play many and go by your own ears. While it is true most brands have a signature sound this is not always true.

Yes, I have a Yamaha Eterna that has a very nice sound but is a little bigger than I like so I am going to sell it. I have grown fond of the small body guitars.

I have a Yamaha LL33 J, all solid wood. Rosewood, sitka, lacquer finish, MOP bimding all around the top and on the headstock... not plastic... ebony bridge and fretboard, scalloped X bracing, snowflake inlays on the fretboard, only thing I didn`t like about it... it came with plastic bridgepins... easy to change.
Probably could have bought a Martin for the same price and I had a Taylor 610, but after buying the Yamaha, returned the Taylor. The Yamaha is very impressive, sounds incredible and is gorgeous to boot. Only guitar above the LL33J is the custom order line, and those do cost a bundle.
Got mine on sale, had been eyeing it for a long time but didn`t want to spend as much as they were asking for... one day, there it was on sale, I pounced. Couldn`t be happier. I`m not surprised that Yamaha builds great high end acoustics... I am surprised more people don`t know about em.
Mine is NOT for sale.
