Members sdre Posted April 2, 2004 Members Posted April 2, 2004 Hey all, I've got a question for the acoustic lovers here. Anyone used a Crybaby wah wah on their acoustic before? Cause sad to say, i'm pretty low on dough (so what else is new). anyway i've got a worship practice coming up next week and i guess instead of playing my acoustic clean... and sounding abit empty... and not wanting to touch my tele, i decided i get the best of both worlds. playing my acoustic which i enjoy more than my tele and getting that wah wah into action! anyone used this combination before? and i might need to add alittle distortion cause the wah wah has a little distortion to it too... so i wonder would the tone be bad and all? I'm using my yamaha cpx-8m, with the condenser mike and piezo mike. thanks in advance
Members Singin' Dave Posted April 2, 2004 Members Posted April 2, 2004 The wa might sound OK through the FX loop of a D.I.. Not sure how it'll do straight up. Give it whirl...
Members Markdsatx Posted April 2, 2004 Members Posted April 2, 2004 One of the guys in the youth band at my church runs a Martin through a crybaby wah. Sounds great. Not sure how he has it set up though. Mark
Members Terry Allan Hall Posted April 3, 2004 Members Posted April 3, 2004 I do, occ. (FX are like habanero peppers...a little goes a long way! ), along with flanger, chorus, phazer, Dig. delay, etc. But only occ., to "spice up" a passage, here and there.
Members cstime Posted April 3, 2004 Members Posted April 3, 2004 Go for it. It'll probably sound a little weird, but weird isn't bad and you may find the different sound opens up some new way of thinking for you. The odds are very good it will sound cool. Acoustic guitarists (myself very much included) tend to fall into the trap of thinking that their guitar amplified must sound exactly like their guitar unamplified, just louder. There's nothing wrong with that, but it's sort of a limiting and often a really frustrating way to think. Sometimes it's refreshing and fun to approach the instrument more like an electric guitarist - "What cool new sound can I get you to make today?" The best of both worlds indeed! Post some clips!
Members franchelB Posted April 3, 2004 Members Posted April 3, 2004 You can use any guitar effect you care to use on your acoustic guitar.Personally, I prefer a clean sound on mine...but to each his own...
Members AJWhiting Posted April 3, 2004 Members Posted April 3, 2004 i run my taylor through several effects. including a vox wah. i don't use it all of the time, but it definitely gets people's attention. i mostly use it during intro's of songs or when i am looping to add a new dimension to the sound. i think that it is very effective.
Members sdre Posted April 3, 2004 Author Members Posted April 3, 2004 Thanks for the suggestions guys. but jus wondering if the condenser mike and the piezo, what effect would the effects have on this parts of the acoustic guitar?
Members JohnnyCanuck Posted April 4, 2004 Members Posted April 4, 2004 I use a DI box and a boss super chorus pedal. I used a flanger at one time too but sold it. Even the DI box has a nice crisp sound to it on it's own. I just bought a couple of Planet Waves cables that are great, you can push a button on it so that you can unplug it without shutting down the soundboard, avoids that POP sound when the soundman forgets to shut you off. Circuit Breaker Cables

Use the FX on the piezo signal, to avoid feedback. Run the condenser "straight".
