Thanks for everyone's advice on my acoustic endeavor (http://acapella.harmony-central.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=581933).

I'm leaning toward some of the Takamines (mainly because my local shop doesn't carry Seagulls or other ones you guys recommended, and I'd like to play it before buying). The Takamine GS-330S seems like a great value, but I couldn't help looking at some of the acoustic/electrics that were reasonably priced as well even though I'll probably stick to your advice.

Does anyone have any thoughts on the EG-530SC?

Thanks again for the information, you've been very helpful !!

takamine does have some good electronics packages on their guitars.

but, what is the price difference in those two models? if you like the gs330s best unplugged you could just have a good pickup system of your choice added to it. you can get a good system for $100 or less...and if it's something you can install yourself no labor fee..

but hey since you've got a store carrying these guitars go and try them out. have someone else play them for you too so you can hear the difference from the listeners perspective. plug in the acoustic/electric. take your time and give them a good work out..

i'm loving my gs330s...

i've never played the one with electronics, but i see it has a solid top too. except it's spruce. the spruce guitar should sound brighter.

although the cedar topped gs330s sounds brighter than i would've expected before playing it.

you could get the gs330s and have a good pickup installed after you get it, or get the other one and come out at roughly the same price i'd think.

so it's really up to which one you think suits you better if it's down to just those two right now.

from what i know takamines factory electronics are better than a lot of others. but i can't say they'd be better than some of the good after market pickups. the built in tuner would be great to have though, i agree with you there. but like the person's post above this one says, you can always get one of those other tuners to put on the guitar.

let us know what you decide and how ya like it! i hope you

find the one that's the right fit for you.

i said this in another post but i like the eg530sc a lot. it's got great treble and is kind of like a gibson (not QUITE as deep and balanced like one) but better than the epiphone versions of the gibsons. it's my favorite maple guitar for it's price range hands down and i would buy it if i had 500 bucks to spend.

I picked up a used EG335C a couple years ago. It is a 12 string with cutaway. Got a good deal on it; $300 CDN. Had my tech put in a bone saddle/nut and fix up the action, etc. Plays like a dream (for the price)

i personally would go with the EG530SC, but then again I'm not a real fan of cedar tops.

I suck at fingerpicking, i'm mainly a strummer and a flatpicker, but hey it's your choice!

I've played a few EG530SCs, and they vary from instrument to instrument...some I've played were really good, others were crap. But for the most part, those guitars are one heck of a deal. it was at the top of my gas list for awhile tee hee! :)

I think the 330s are nice guitars, almost a copy of the Seagull S6 cedar top. I like the neck on the Seagull better.
