I am thinking of letting my larrivee go...

seriously i spent some time playing these 250 CDN guitars and they just sound unbelievabley good, dare i say even great.

Why did I spend $1000 on the larrivee then, cos i had the money then and so I was a snob. Now I am poor and all the pretense has gone. I play acoustic only like 10 % of the time, so I might sell to make way for an A & L.

Don't forget seagull which is the premier line of that group. But i gotta say, i think your larrivee must be suffering from being dressed with the worse string for it (they are VERY picky about what string you use) or theres something wrong with it. I love the seagulls and the ones you mentioned are pretty good too. But trust me on this, my Larrivee wipes the floor with them big time. Theres just no comparrison. Those guitars sound pretty good for soft strumming and fingerpicking, but hit em hard and watch what happens. They lose it big time while the larrivee holds up. Thats what seperates good from great acoustics.

Since you play acoustic so little maybe you're doing the right thing. But i guarantee you that if i stuck you in a room with any of those guitars and my larrivee you'd emerge with a far different opinion.

Man, I'll swap you my A&L for your Larivee no questions asked. Hey, I'll even pay shipping--both ways!!

I'll admit, they are good guitars--for the price--but they aren't in Larivee's class. I play my A&L Wildcherry Cedar more than my Taylor, but that's a quirk of location--the Taylor is kept at church and the A&L at home. I have more time to play at home than at church. I do like the A&L though. Its sound has a character that I really like. It's gritty and warm and real.

LaSiDo knows how to make a great guitar.

I almost bought an A&L Folk, even though I already own a solid-top Seagull Folk, because it sounded so much better than the price tag. I honestly couldn't believe the sound they get while they're all-laminate. It boggles my mind.

Great guitars. As noted, not better than a Larrivee (imo), but well worth the cash, and absolutely astounding in their own right.

I have to add that I believe the Norman is the real star of that family. I know Seagull is the darling of low- priced (notice I don't use the word cheap in conjuction with Lasido) guitars. But Norman is the brand for moi. I tried every Seagull (20 or so) in a local shop, various models, and at the end I picked up a Norman B20. No question about the superiorty of this guitar. I played Breedlove Atlas, Simon and Patrick, A & L, Ibanez, Fender, Martin DX1, Taylor Big Baby everything under $1k. Nothing came close to my ears.

I live with someone whose got an S6 and we go back and forth on whose guitar is better...personal taste really :D I found the one for me

I don't know if my Norman would beat out a low end Larrivee, but I wouldn't scoff at the idea.

As soon as I get some time, I think I am going to put new strings on my Larrive D03 (I use daddario phospphor bronze) and actually take it to the shop where I played some A&L yesterday. I will play it inside their acoutic guitar room. stay tuned....

My dad has an Larivee L09, a Seagull M12, and a Tobacco Sunburst Simon and Patrick, and I have a Simon and Patrick Parlour, and a Seagull S6. They are all great guitars, but the Larivee is head and shoulders above them all.
