Members riffmeister Posted April 25, 2004 Members Posted April 25, 2004 Brought my OM2H into the music store for a setup, played an OM1A and pooped my pants!! Adirondack & Mahogany, what a great combination for punch & clarity!!!! The OM2H is now for sale at a very reasonable price (see the f/s sticky). And it's set up perfectly!
Members orsino Posted April 25, 2004 Members Posted April 25, 2004 Congrats man! Hey our new ones kind of have the same birthday! God how I love a new guitar! Post pix!
Members SurrealMcCoy Posted April 25, 2004 Members Posted April 25, 2004 .............wish I could buy your OM2H.......... Alan
Members riffmeister Posted April 25, 2004 Author Members Posted April 25, 2004 Yeah, finding a good guitar is exciting! My worst vice.........next to electric guitars & amps, LOL! The OM1A is definitely of the "Plain Jane" styling school. The OM2H is a prettier guitar, IMO. Both sound great, but the OM1A has more focus and punch, the notes just jump right out at you. Really really nice for fingerstyle!!!! Pic enclosed.
Members riffmeister Posted April 25, 2004 Author Members Posted April 25, 2004 compare to the pic of the OM2H
Members SurrealMcCoy Posted April 25, 2004 Members Posted April 25, 2004 ............Rosewood, Mahogany, Rosewood, Mahogany.............you're giving me............GAS !!! Alan
Members riffmeister Posted April 25, 2004 Author Members Posted April 25, 2004 They're both very nice.......mahogany emphasizes the fundamental, rosewood brings out more overtones. The rosewood guitar is the looker of the two. So I just close my eyes when I play the mahogany guitar.....

Yeah, I'm rather partial to Mahogany myself..........3 Mahog's, 1 Maple, 1 Koa (my steel string family). Alan

Members SurrealMcCoy Posted April 25, 2004 Members Posted April 25, 2004 Originally posted by riffmeister Oh, so you DO need a rosewood Collings OM, then! I've been lusting after a Santa Cruz OM/PW for awhile..........I know the Collings could very well give the SC a "run for the money"..........I'm convinced............just "sell" my wife.......... Alan
Members riffmeister Posted April 25, 2004 Author Members Posted April 25, 2004 I played a SC PW OM side-by-side with the Collings OM2H about a year ago when I was OM shopping. The SC is a very very nice guitar!!! The Collings had a little more snap and twang, which was something I wanted. Pushed me over to the Collings. Tell your "sell" wife that my "sale" price on the mint OM2H is "sweet". Maybe tell her with a six pack of fresh roses in your hand!
Members 54merk Posted April 25, 2004 Members Posted April 25, 2004 Congratulaitons on the new Collings. They are both beautiful. Too bad you cannot keep them both. They'll feel lonely if separated.
Members Danocoustic Posted April 25, 2004 Members Posted April 25, 2004 I've checked out both models pretty thoroughly (I'm shopping for a similar guitar) and I agree with your opinion about mahogany vs. rosewood. For the Blind Blake, Rev. Gary Davis &c stuff I play, mahogany has THE bark, THE sound. Congrats on the very nice guitar! *can I have it?*
Members Unk Posted April 25, 2004 Members Posted April 25, 2004 Hey SurrealMcCoy, I have it on good authority that you're not allowed to sell your wife. Although she sounds like a wonderful person and I'm sure you could get more guitars than you'd ever be able to play don't do it man! Very nice guitar Riffmeister. I have never treid a Collings. Not because I don't want to, I certainly do. I've just never seen one in a shop I've been in. A guy at LB's jam last year had one and from where I stood it sure sounded great.
Members talkgtr Posted April 25, 2004 Members Posted April 25, 2004 I did much the same thing. Sold my OM2H(E) and bought a OM1 sitka and never looked back. Enjoy!
Members riffmeister Posted April 25, 2004 Author Members Posted April 25, 2004 OM2H is on ebay! http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3720518657 It's a GREAT guitar!!!!!!!
Members LittleBrother Posted April 25, 2004 Members Posted April 25, 2004 Lucky Dawg ! Those are fantastic guitars
Members riffmeister Posted April 26, 2004 Author Members Posted April 26, 2004 Wow, after a day and a half with the new OM1A, I am AMAZED at the balance and bell-like clarity! Sooooooo sweet and sooooooo clear, it's like angels singing when I play fingerstyle!!!

Members guitarcapo Posted April 27, 2004 Members Posted April 27, 2004 Personally I think the man is describing a Lowden.
Members riffmeister Posted April 27, 2004 Author Members Posted April 27, 2004 I've played several Lowdens, several different sizes and woods. They are very sweet and balanced sounding guitars, no doubt. The Collings OM1A has has a more crisp top end and greater "bell-like" clarity than the Lowdens I've tried. It's pretty amazing what the OM1A does (to me, at least).
Members ebonivory Posted April 28, 2004 Members Posted April 28, 2004 Beautiful guitar. All the best. I had an OM1...never played the Adi topped one, and can't imagine how incredible it must sound. The OM1 had a very balanced tone, but also pleasantly bright. Gotta hear the OM1A.
Members labjr Posted May 3, 2004 Members Posted May 3, 2004 I'm starting to have second thoughts now. I have an OM2H. I need to play a mahogany model again. I kind of like the overtones of the rosewood too and still pretty punchy. Need to keep both maybe.
