Westwood Music Visit

Got a chance to visit while in LA this past week.

I was treated like a king by Fred Walecki himself. How cool is THAT? Fred had throat cancer and has to speak using one of those devices that are held up to the throat.

From the moment I entered the shop, Fred asked me about my playing style and said "you grab that one off the wall and I'll get this one and follow me". He took me into the large room with stage in the back and let me play away on a couple of very nice Collings. When done (1/2 hour or so later), I walked back out front and he was right there again to talk about the guitars. He then left me alone to play others off the wall. Standouts were two boutiques. A Geiger and a Galloup. By far the best in the shop. Loud and lush and balanced. Not to mention beautifully constructed.

When leaving, Fred was on the phone. He asked the person on the line to wait as he told me how "very nice it was to have me visit and please come back".

Now I know he wanted to sell me a guitar, but I couldn't help but be flattered by all the one-on-one attention he gave me. Fred has a number of important friends.

Nice post, Tom. Always nice to visit nice guitar shops, huh? I'll be going to TAMCO in Brighton again this coming Friday and can't wait to try the all-koa Goody parlor!

A report and pictures will follow.
