Any idea on how to properly mic loud and/ or bassy acoustic guitars? My Gibson SJ and scaloped Martin are nightmares to mic. I use condensers, mostly large ones (>=1").

I know topicwise it's I tie between this forum and the recording forum, and I might post a thread there as well.

Cheers!

I try to point the mic just past the bridge ... that usually gives me a brighter, non-woofy tone OR I'll point the mic towards the twelfth fret ( at an upward angle towards the treble strings ) .... that gives me strong highs but not as bright as just beyond the bridge.

Try placing the mic shoulder high about 12 inches in front of the 14th fret. Angle the face of the mic towards the soundhole.

In general, keep it away from the lower bout.
