Members MH3 Posted July 5, 2004 Members Posted July 5, 2004 I'm going to be in the Johnstown, PA area in a couple of weeks (my vacation days are 7.15-7.20). Johnstown is about 2 hrs. east of Pittsburgh. My wife has family in the area. Normally we stay with one of my wife's aunts in Sidman, but I think we're staying with another aunt in nearby Beaverdale. Does anyone know of any guitar-related destinations I should check out while in the area?
Members kwakatak Posted July 6, 2004 Members Posted July 6, 2004 I don't know about anything near Johnstown, but maybe Evil Twin will chime in since he's near there in Indiana, PA. Iif you like Irish music and are willing to drive a couple of hours: There's Melaney's Irish Pub on Penn Ave. in the Pittsburgh Strip District where there's always live Irish music on Saturday nights. Ther'es plenty of Guinness and Murphy's too! There's the Phyrst Family on Saturday nights on College Ave in State College, PA. The downside is that there are too many drunken college kids because it's 2 blocks off Penn State's main campus - not a good place to be if you're a Notre Dame fan! Now if you're really into driving, there's always the Martin factory out in Nazarath, PA but that's way out on the NJ border. There's more going on in Pittsburgh that I may have to look up and I believe that the State College Arts Festival may be happening soon out there too.
Members MH3 Posted July 6, 2004 Author Members Posted July 6, 2004 Thanks for the reply. I'm looking for more "family-friendly" -type events or destinations. The Martin factory would be ideal, if it is close enough. Idon't know why I didn't think of that before. We may have to make a side trip on the way in or out of PA.
Members kwakatak Posted July 6, 2004 Members Posted July 6, 2004 It's pretty far and there's not much more to see around there. Per Mapquest the trip is 4 hours and 231 miles

I may just have to schedule an extra day into our next visit for the Martin tour.
