Members woody b Posted July 5, 2004 Members Posted July 5, 2004 I made a simultanious recording with my Tacoma ER22C. One is with the pickup, a B-Band 2.2 system the other with a SM57 both ran through my mixer. No effects and the EQ's flat. I thought the pickup sounded pretty realistic and according to my ear this recording verifies that. I'm mainly a flatpicker but I used a thumbpick and also used my fingernails a little for this demo. B-Band 2.2 SM57
Members seven7 Posted July 6, 2004 Members Posted July 6, 2004 i can definitely hear a difference in the clips. i wouldn't confuse them as the same sound. that being said:i may be the only one that says this but, i think i actually like the sample with the b-band electronics better than the mic'd clip.i think it sounds great! especially considering the eq is flat. wow.i like it. great sounding combo. i'm also a fan of b-band stuff. just getting back to it pretty much. i tried the ust with a1 preamp in a few guitars and liked it. but i wanted to try other stuff too. some of the pickups i've tried are: pick-uptheworld #27, k&k pure western, and schatten dualie. all are good pickups in their own right. but i seem to gravitate back towards the b-band ust and a1 preamp.also something with the other pickups i mentioned that bothered me was that the louder the volume the more they pick up EVERYTHING. bump your guitar, it's amplified. move, it's amplified. that's great for some percussive stuff, but not great for other movements, etc.
Members woody b Posted July 6, 2004 Author Members Posted July 6, 2004 I usually use 2 mics for recording and I have to move them around to find the "sweet spot" I just used one and wasn't very picky with it. The mic recording needing some EQ'ing too but the B-Band amazed me. I would have spent a little more time getting the microphone right but I wanted to turn my AC back on. I've played with the B-band in some pretty loud places and never had any feedback problems. I didn't think it was possible for it to sound as good as I thought but I believe it does.
Members LittleBrother Posted July 7, 2004 Members Posted July 7, 2004 Good job on that sound test! FYI, but I was able to use this trick to greatly enhance the results of my bband UST. Listen to the before and after clips at the bottom of the page. Pretty dramatic. http://littlebrother.nlpd.com/Clay-UST/index.htm
Members Jere Mealer Posted July 7, 2004 Members Posted July 7, 2004 I agree with Seven7, I thought the Bband sounded better. But I'm somewhat biased. I have the A2.2 in my Larrivee and I love it.
