Members jimeanes Posted July 12, 2004 Members Posted July 12, 2004 My DV-03R came with a slotted (bottom) TUSQ saddle. I order a spare from Larrivee and it is a solid ( non slotted) saddle. Does any one know the theory behind slotted vs non slotted saddles?I have not tried the solid saddle yet, well do when I re do LB'S clay shim trick. Jim Eanes
Members LittleBrother Posted July 12, 2004 Members Posted July 12, 2004 Hi Jim, I havent seen a slotted saddle. The bottom should be smooth and flat where it meets the bottom of the slot in the bridge. The top edge of the saddle can be compensated or non-compensated but should not come with grooves where the strings lay over it. The little slots get worn in there naturally from usage. The nuts come with slots of course. Somehow I think I am just not understanding you properly. Maybe you can explain it again or even shoot a small digital photo and email it to me ? [email protected] should work if you feel like it. Or I will check back here. I am working but I get a short break about every hour. Doug
Members jimeanes Posted July 12, 2004 Author Members Posted July 12, 2004 LB, The top of saddle is compensated, the bottom of the saddle is flat beneath each string, but there are five notches on the bottom which is between each string, the notch goes up 90deg, over 90deg and back down 90deg. The notch is approx 1/8 x 3/16 x 1/8. I discovered this when I first did the clay shim trick. I have never seen this before. When I get time to take the saddle out out ,I will e mail you a picture. I also plan to put the my other saddle in to see if ther is a differance in sound or tone. Jim Eanes
Members LittleBrother Posted July 12, 2004 Members Posted July 12, 2004 Wow this is 100% new to me. I can't understand why they would ever want something like that. I guess it's above my level of knowledge but yes if you post a picture I will get to the bottom of it.
