Members Pentatonic Posted July 11, 2004 Members Posted July 11, 2004 Here's the deal. I'm an electric guy. Those of you here who don't visit the electric forum may have never even seen my handle before. In fact, I'm probably the electric guy you all hate. I play an LP custom through a Marshall stack. Anyway, we need a rhythm section, so the rhythm guitarist/vocalist and I are going to be playing some acoustic gigs. I can bum an old epiphone till I get something else, but it doesn't have electronics and is really far more suited to rhythm work. I play lead almost exclusively. I'm looking for something in roughly the $500 range. The Rhythm guitarist has a breedlove acoustic that I think is awesome. I also like my dad's stratacoustic. That should give you some idea what I'm looking for. I'm mostly interested in a nice, fat lead tone, lots of volume, but wanna be able to strum a bit on it as well (it pays to be prepared). I just dropped 1100 on the LP, so I don't wanna spend a fortune. Any ideas?
Members WGH Posted July 11, 2004 Members Posted July 11, 2004 I'd go play some Ovations (even the Celebrities) at Guitar Center. I found one several years ago that sounded and played wonderful.
Members kwakatak Posted July 11, 2004 Members Posted July 11, 2004 I hear good things about the Breedlove Atlas line which should be around that price range. You may also want to look for a used Taylor grand auditorium (214 or 314CE) or a Larriv
Members Pentatonic Posted July 11, 2004 Author Members Posted July 11, 2004 I THINK the rhythm guitarist has an atlas, but I'm uncertain. It's awesome, whatever it is. I tried out an ovation at L&M (sort of our equivalent of guitar center here in chattanooga), and liked it. Of course, I actually tried out five or six, but I think the Elite T series might work well....anyone have any experience with it? Any other suggestions? And where could I check out a Larivee?
Members Pentatonic Posted July 11, 2004 Author Members Posted July 11, 2004 One other thing.... what are some of the cheaper non-celebrity ovations?
