Anybody ever play the Carvin AC series acoustic electrics? I need a decent acoustic electric to play live, and I am a fan of their electrics. I don't need it to sound great unplugged - that's not going to be the purpose of this guitar. I want something that is going to be really easy to play live, and I've read somewhere that they play like an electric.

When it comes to acoustics that play more like electrics, people have always pointed to Ovations.

The Tacoma Chief is another one.

With the right setup, though, you can make just about any acoustic play like an electric. Just look at how some Taylors come from the factory. You can usually get the action as low as you want on most factory acoustics today...but you're going to pay for it with getting a more buzzy and choked sound.

If you're only looking for plugged-in tone, the Carvin AC guitars can fit your bill.

But for their prices, which range from roughly $750 to a grand, you could just get a Cobalt acoustic for less, and most likely get a better plugged-in tone from their Fishman electronics. Plus, you'll get a better acoustic tone, even if you don't use it that much.

So for less cash, you could get better sound both ways and set the guitar up to play like you want it to.
