Members jerry_picker Posted July 15, 2004 Members Posted July 15, 2004 I have a 000-15 Martin and a 3/4 size Tatay de Valencia. The smaller bodied guitars are great for living-room picking and front porch strumming. Their is something more intimate about parlour guitars...Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull has them made to 19th century specs by some English luthier, and CF Martin recently released an Ian Anderson signature model (an 0-28 for $5500:eek: ). So what are some good steel-string parlour guitars for under 5 hundred dollars?
Members seven7 Posted July 15, 2004 Members Posted July 15, 2004 larrivee parlor elderly instruments (www.elderly.com) has some larrivee parlor models (at least one with maple back and sides i saw on the site just then) for around $550....this may be the last of them though. the newer parlors are going up up up in price. check with dave at www.guitaradoptions.com first on those though. and he can tell you more info... i've never played the seagull or cort parlor guitars. but based on their other guitars i'd think they'd both be good instruments in that price range.
Members EvilTwin Posted July 16, 2004 Members Posted July 16, 2004 The Seagull Grand is pretty decent for the money, IMO.
Members Bluesfrog Posted July 16, 2004 Members Posted July 16, 2004 I also second the Larrivees (Dave can hook you up).... other than that.. They're really the best bang for the buck parlor on the Market... there isn't a wide range of high-end parlors around.
Members desaljs Posted July 16, 2004 Members Posted July 16, 2004 I put in a vote for the Seagull Grand. I've had mine for about 6 months now. Good price, nice sound and construction, beefy neck (if you like that with 1 3/4 string spacing) and nice to hold and play. Since it is not a real expensive instrument, I take it outside and in general, slog it around without worry. It is nice to have an acoustic that you do not need to worry about as much. The Larrivee's look real nice. I have not had a chance to play them. At some point in time, I would like to own one, but might have to be more concerned about how I treat it................
Members baldeagle5_ Posted July 17, 2004 Members Posted July 17, 2004 I add my vote for the Larrivee as well....just bought the parlor from a fellow in my home town for $500 cdn....it is used but has a wonderful tone....I installed a pickup and it sounds great through my acoustic amp....good luck with your search BE :)

IMHO, Larrivee offers the best value within your price area.
Members nigel1228 Posted July 18, 2004 Members Posted July 18, 2004 Brother/Sister listen to your Brothers/Sisters - go with the Larrivee Parlour! I opted for Koa and couldn't be happier -plays, sounds and feels like a "real" guitar and the quality is on par with acoustics costing 5 times as much. I searched all of the on-line Dealers and based on price, responsiveness and "vibe" I went with Buffalo Brothers where I got a "smokin" deal from Adrienne (sp.?).

Johnson parlour That looks very nice for $89..........however, I don't have a clue how it would sound? You might want to check out the Olympia parlor (@$99)..........
Members Jack R Posted July 19, 2004 Members Posted July 19, 2004 For a knock around, travelling, practice guitar that sounds pretty good, the Olympia parlor is hard to beat for a hundred bucks.
Members redstevo Posted July 19, 2004 Members Posted July 19, 2004 Tanglewood do one - 12 fret body join, slotted headstock and very nice trim - don't know how much but it sure looked the business - and Tanglewood are low end - maybe worth a search?
