Members Jim S Posted June 22, 2004 Members Posted June 22, 2004 I finally had the K & K Trinity Mini Western installed. OMG does this thing sound incredible. ...Literally sounds exactly like my guitar with no coloring or quack. I am blown away buy this pickup. It doesn't sound good or OK, this thing sounds amazzzzzzzzzzzzzing. I bought the solo version w/o the K&K preamp as I usually run into a Baggs Mix Pro or less often DTAR Solstice. For this price it's a joke. It's like buying a Ferrari for the price of a Ford. How can it sound this good and be this cheap? And I had a "money no object" atttitude about puchasing a pup too. Once again, thanks to Dave at Guitar Adoptions for a good recommendation on which pup. Of course I scoured the webs for reviews and listened to sound samples. I hope to gig with it next week.

Nope, no problem with feedback. I had the K&K Trinity Mini Western installed in my Larrivee J-10KK. My Baggs Mix Pro nor my DTAR Solstice could power the onboard mic so I had to get the K&K outboard 2 ch preamp which works like a charm. Tonight I played at EJ's Jazz Club with some original instrumentals and a version of Michael Hedges "Ritual Dance." I turned down the preamps dual volume controls, plugged into the PA, had them bring up the PA volume and then brought up my volume: on-board mic first and then the Pure pup to the edge of feedback and then cut the output/volume slightly: no feedback at all. I got some compliments on my playing and a lot on the guitar's tone and appearance. The monitors were good and I too thought the tone was excellent. So bottom line: I recommend the K&K. The onboard mic adds a little extra depth to the Pure pickup; not a significant effect but it's a bit more sweetner and depth to the sound. Here's a pic from tonight's gig:
Members RainsongDR1000 Posted July 21, 2004 Members Posted July 21, 2004 Wow, that's a beautiful guitar! I would think a koa auditorium would be less feedback prone than my rosewood dread, though. Glad the K&K worked for you.
Members tac5 Posted July 21, 2004 Members Posted July 21, 2004 I just installed a K&K Pure Western in each of my Taylor 914c's. One is maple and the other rosewood. I use a Yamaha AG Stomp preamp with incredible results. The AG is totally noiseless and has feedback control with a decent reverb, limiter and other features. I also couldn't believe my ears. I've played all types of amplification systems, some very expensive, but the K&K is everything I was looking for.
