Members EvilTwin Posted July 26, 2004 Members Posted July 26, 2004 If you do a forum search for acoustic pickups, you'll get a lot of information on this. Some favorites of forumites here that I've noticed: -- K&K Pure Western (three-piece bridgeplate transducer) -- L.R. Baggs i-Beam (one-piece bridgeplate transducer) -- B.Band UST/AST (under-saddle piezo-type transducer w/ acoustic soundboard transducer) -- Fishman Dual Source (under-saddle piezo w/ internal mic) ------- What type of music do you play? Any of those will work great for more solo work, and they'll work in a bigger band situation if you take some time to work with them. A regular under-saddle piezo by itself with LittleBrother's clay shim trick sounds pretty impressive, too.
Members Megatron_69 Posted July 26, 2004 Author Members Posted July 26, 2004 I'll be playing some gigs with my girlfriend who sings. Just guitar and vocals at this point. Mixture of pick, finger picking, and some hybred picked stuff. I should know more about this stuff but up until this time a year ago most of my acoustic playing has been classical on a nylon string acoustic.
Members vetstudent Posted July 26, 2004 Members Posted July 26, 2004 For the style you play I'd think the I-beam would be great but I would consider getting the I-mix which has both the i-beam and the element UST. They both plug into the same pre-amp and you have little on-board control of your sound without the certain need for an external pre. Your D28 (if I'm not mistaken) has a very rich bass so I would think you might be limited by only getting the i-beam because you will probably get some feedback issues or muddy sounds when you start some harder strumming. I bought the I-mix on-line for $180 and did the install myself and it sounds great in my D15. Check out baggs web site http://www.lrbaggs.com/home.html to see the different options. B-band has dual source system too (I haven't heard it) Baggs and B-band seem to be the two most recommended systems out there.
Members guitarcapo Posted July 26, 2004 Members Posted July 26, 2004 an I beam almost always needs a pre amp.
