Members Pure Morning Posted July 25, 2004 Members Posted July 25, 2004 2 Days non-stop ive been browsing forums, reading articles and god knows what to find the right amp. So far this is what I've come up with: Ultrasound AG-50DS2 Kustom 65 Roland AC60 AER Alpha Laney LC60C (something like that) Problem though....Being In Greece, the prices are that of Retail Prices in America due to Tax, shipping etc. I cant get Ultrasound, I cant find any european online distributor. Getting it from the states will at $110 on shipping and then another 180 on taxes. Anyone know online European store? AER Alpha Is a little bit too expensive for my pocket. Kustom im hearing all sorts of stuff about it! Some good, Some bad... I dont want to get a Laney And I can get my hands on a Roland which doesnt look too bad. I've excluded the Fender Acoustosonic idea.....I dont know about Marshall.... Your suggestions would be a great help. This will be played at home so I dont need loud thing! Taylor 110 with a K&K Pure Western. Thanks
Members Brokenwing Posted July 26, 2004 Members Posted July 26, 2004 Little Brother (and you can trust this man's advice from all that I've read) likes the Carvin AG100. It seems to do many things well. If you go to his website he has a review on it and owns one himself. I'd say his endorsement is enough. Check it out.
Members Pure Morning Posted July 26, 2004 Author Members Posted July 26, 2004 I read his review and I know LB's words are that of a wise man. Yet 100W for me is way to much to play at home.
Members vetstudent Posted July 26, 2004 Members Posted July 26, 2004 I don't know if you can get one but "Mega" is now making an acoustic amp that is 60 watts. It has lots of crystal clear power. I played it along with all the fender, ibanez, kustom, peavy, and roland's I could find. I thought it had a much more accurate and clear tone. than any of the others. I bought mine for $250 and I think it was a steal. The model is AC60R. You might want to see if you can find one... They're actually a little hard to find even in the states. Good luck!
Members RainsongDR1000 Posted July 26, 2004 Members Posted July 26, 2004 Do you sing? Do you think you EVER will sing? Do you think there is even a small chance in hell you'll ever want to to do anything (singing/playing wise) w/ ANYBODY but yourself? If you answer "yes" to any of these questions, seriously consider going the small PA route vs. the acoustic amp route. If you read the latest copy of Acoustic Guitar mag where it reviews 9 new pickups, you'll see that the reviewers thought they ALL sounded better through a PA vs. an acoustic amp. You can pickup a Carvin PA620 w/ (2) 12" speakers for $600 + freight (new). Even if you will always be solo. It is so much more convenient and better sounding to be able to put your speakers on stands or even use one speaker as main and the other as a monitor. I used to have a 100 watt peavey keyboard amp, which is pretty much what most acoustic amps are and was much happier w/ my Carvin setup. PS - avoid Kustom, Nady, Squire, Rogue etc. Carvin and Peavey are good MI stuff that is good bang for the buck. Behringer is one that is still being debated hotly.

Members redstevo Posted July 27, 2004 Members Posted July 27, 2004 For home, the marshall 50w model would be perfect. The guitarists in my covers band use them for their acoustics and they're absolutely fine. I recorded with one a couple of years a go and was very pleased. Good features as well. In Greece you might be able to get Behringer (maybe too big for home). Don't knock Laney - it will be reliable and provide a good basic sound - as will Carlsbro. However my money would be on the MArshall - an absolute bargain.Good luckredstevo
Members Terry Allan Hall Posted July 27, 2004 Members Posted July 27, 2004 Vote for the Kustom KAA-65...been using mine several X a week for about 18 months and am well pleased. Great "mini-PA" for nursing home/hospital gigs (my "day job", as it were). Excellent "guitar monitor" when I'm gigging with my trio. Very dependable...only real downside is that the vinyl covering is not as tough as I would like it, so you might want to invest in an amp cover. Here's the skinny on it: http://www.harmony-central.com/Guitar/Data/Kustom/KAA_65-01.html
