Members Northern Rocker Posted July 26, 2004 Members Posted July 26, 2004 hi, mid 70's Martins are not popular, at least not until everything else has been priced out of existance and suddenly 70's Martins become collectors items. Reasons are that Martin went through union problems and due to strokesd etc. there was a lack of skilled manpower. But more importantly were the structural changes they introduced; lacquered over pickguard leading to cracked finishing and the large rosewood bridgeplate which prohibits the top resonating more than the traditional smaller maple one. Martin switched back to a maple bridgeplate in ca. 79. Please note that there are some good 70's Martins about (although I've never played one). A 76 D-18 should cost much less than a new one. best regards
Members chipmonk-doug Posted July 26, 2004 Members Posted July 26, 2004 76 d-18 should go from around $900-1100 doug
Members rh2d Posted July 26, 2004 Members Posted July 26, 2004 I saw a '73 D 18 SB go for $1750 about a year ago on ebay. I thought that a bit much but it sure was a pretty guitar.
Members guitarcapo Posted July 27, 2004 Members Posted July 27, 2004 Yea, like most stuff made in America at that time they weren't the best examples.........

Check completed ebay auctions as well as gbase. gbase prices are usually higher because they are dealer advertisements.
