Members talkgtr Posted July 31, 2004 Members Posted July 31, 2004 Yes it is. Congratulations. The fun is just beginning!
Members orsino Posted July 31, 2004 Members Posted July 31, 2004 Collings are super instruments. Congrats. If and when you can take it off your lap for a minute, tell us more about the the tone, etc.
Members LittleBrother Posted July 31, 2004 Members Posted July 31, 2004 That's one SUPER fine axe! Congrats on your new monster!
Members SongMan Posted July 31, 2004 Members Posted July 31, 2004 Congrads!!! Very very nice instrument. My Collings D3 will be here Tuesday or Wednesday of next week.
Members ctoddrun Posted July 31, 2004 Members Posted July 31, 2004 ...so I'm taking my Taylor 810 to the music store today to get a pickup for it and while I am there, what do you know, I try out that exact model of Collings. Long story short, for the next two hours I play that thing. A/B it against the Taylor and my suspicions were confirmed. While the Taylor has the playability I love, the Collings is the guitar that I think SOUNDS like a guitar is supposed to. Playability of the Collings was close enough. So I'm sitting there GASsing like a MO FO about what to do. I know I should be able to get about 1500-1600 for the Taylor on Ebay. The store will only give me 1000. Well, luckily I come to my senses (for now) and put that Collings down and get the hell out of there. Thing is, as much as I like the sound, kicking in another 2200 bucks or so, AND leaving the Taylor behind just didnt seem prudent. So another GAS attack was avoided... by the hair of my chinny chin chin. Stunning instrument though... I just PRAY that I can make it through the next couple of days without doing anything rash... Anyone want to buy a pristine Taylor 810 for 1550?
Members Etienne Rambert Posted July 31, 2004 Members Posted July 31, 2004 The guy I've played music with for 25 years has both a Collings Jumbo & a Taylor 814 CE. He fell in love with the sound of the Collings. But he is discovering that the Taylor is a better recording guitar. It's hard to capture the Collings sound on his recording. But the Taylor gives good predictable results - each time. At least that's what he told me.
Members fornyeye Posted July 31, 2004 Author Members Posted July 31, 2004 Thanks guys, I can hardly put it down I would say the tone is bold, rich, sweet, balanced and bell-like. Heres another gas inducing picture
Members EvilTwin Posted August 1, 2004 Members Posted August 1, 2004 That's not just any guitar, that's a fine, fine, fine instrument. Congratulations!
Members min7b5 Posted August 1, 2004 Members Posted August 1, 2004 If I could have any former guitar back, it would be my Collings D2h. Just a fantastic guitar! Congrats!
Members kwakatak Posted August 1, 2004 Members Posted August 1, 2004 Congratulations! THere some nice texture on the top and I love that binding. Thank God I don't know what it sounds like because my GAS is bad enough! BTW, I noticed that the price tag was still on the case, too. It's like you couldn't wait to rush home and capture the moment like a proud papa! You know - it's kinda eerie, but in the second picture I swear that's a Taylor grand auditorium (814CE?) sitting almost off-frame! Is that the back-up guitar of choice for Collings owners?

Members guitarcapo Posted August 2, 2004 Members Posted August 2, 2004 Anyone want to buy a pristine Taylor 810 for 1550? For what it's worth I just sold my used 710CE with a Fishman Blender on Ebay for 1,350.00
Members ctoddrun Posted August 2, 2004 Members Posted August 2, 2004 I'm pretty sure you guys are BOTH the devil...I just had a pickup installed in the Taylor. As nice as that Collings was, I'd be afraid to take it out and the difference in tone, for me, wasnt worth another 2+ K.So I'll be keeping it. And avoiding the debt. And continueing to stay the hell OUT of guitar shops in an attempt to avoid the severe gas pains associated with said shops. Thanks for the heads up though!
