Collings are super instruments. Congrats. If and when you can take it off your lap for a minute, tell us more about the the tone, etc.

...so I'm taking my Taylor 810 to the music store today to get a pickup for it and while I am there, what do you know, I try out that exact model of Collings.

Long story short, for the next two hours I play that thing. A/B it against the Taylor and my suspicions were confirmed. While the Taylor has the playability I love, the Collings is the guitar that I think SOUNDS like a guitar is supposed to. Playability of the Collings was close enough.

So I'm sitting there GASsing like a MO FO about what to do. I know I should be able to get about 1500-1600 for the Taylor on Ebay. The store will only give me 1000.

Well, luckily I come to my senses (for now) and put that Collings down and get the hell out of there.

Thing is, as much as I like the sound, kicking in another 2200 bucks or so, AND leaving the Taylor behind just didnt seem prudent.

So another GAS attack was avoided... by the hair of my chinny chin chin.

Stunning instrument though... I just PRAY that I can make it through the next couple of days without doing anything rash...

Anyone want to buy a pristine Taylor 810 for 1550?

The guy I've played music with for 25 years has both a Collings Jumbo & a Taylor 814 CE. He fell in love with the sound of the Collings. But he is discovering that the Taylor is a better recording guitar. It's hard to capture the Collings sound on his recording. But the Taylor gives good predictable results - each time.

At least that's what he told me.

Thanks guys, I can hardly put it down ;) I would say the tone is bold, rich, sweet, balanced and bell-like. Heres another gas inducing picture :)

Congratulations! THere some nice texture on the top and I love that binding. Thank God I don't know what it sounds like because my GAS is bad enough!

BTW, I noticed that the price tag was still on the case, too. It's like you couldn't wait to rush home and capture the moment like a proud papa! :)

You know - it's kinda eerie, but in the second picture I swear that's a Taylor grand auditorium (814CE?) sitting almost off-frame! Is that the back-up guitar of choice for Collings owners? ;)

I am sure Kevin at Hill country guitars can give you better deal for your Taylor to trade towards Collings. He is excellent person to deal with and owns biggest Collings Dealer in Texas. I ordered COllings D3 from him 4 months ago and will be here this week. His number is 512-847-8677 or visit his website at hillcountryguitars.com NO I do not work for them, but just tell him David who ordered D3 sent you from another forum.

ALso, if you want to read more upon Collings guitar, visit their forum at Collingsforum.com

I'm pretty sure you guys are BOTH the devil...

;)

I just had a pickup installed in the Taylor.

As nice as that Collings was, I'd be afraid to take it out and the difference in tone, for me, wasnt worth another 2+ K.

So I'll be keeping it. And avoiding the debt. And continueing to stay the hell OUT of guitar shops in an attempt to avoid the severe gas pains associated with said shops.

Thanks for the heads up though!
