Members ChrisNJ Posted August 9, 2004 Members Posted August 9, 2004 I've had my Carvin Cobalt 980MW since January. It's my 2nd one actually because the first one I had had serious buzzing and I had to send it back. Anyway, the one that Carvin sent me as a replacement that had high action. So I had a local guitar guy adjust it (sanding the bridge saddle and adjusting the rod) for me and it seemed to get better. The thing is, I havent been playing guitar as much as I used to; living in an apartment not wanting to bother the people upstairs, also trying to get a job after finishing college, sitting down and never knowing what to play, etc. Point is, the action on my Carvin still feels high but doesnt really look high. With a ruler, it's a barely higher than my Washburn EA10. Plus, the Carvin neck is really thicker too. So I'm wondering if it's just me or my acoustic? My local guitar guy moved and I dont know if I'm just obsessing over a 1/16 of an inch. Is it my imagination because I dont play as much as I should, or do I need another adjustment?
Members Jerry NT Posted August 9, 2004 Members Posted August 9, 2004 I don't know what an EA10 is, an electric? If so, they generally can be set closer to the strings and are normally considered easier to play. How hard something is to fret is a property of height, string size and tension, neck size and adjustment. If you go to a lighter gauge of strings, it might help. However, you may wind up with a buzz about the 5th fret. This would indicate that you need to adust your neck. (If you've never done this before, you should get some help or even find a tech. Once you strip the rod, it's a major repair.)
