Members louiseB Posted August 6, 2004 Members Posted August 6, 2004 I've read most of the reviews on harmony central for the martin d-15, it's gotten a lot of pretty good reviews and seems a steal for the price. One thing mentioned in the reviews is that it is fragile. I know it comes with a hard shell case included in the price. Has anyone done any travelling with this guitar by plane where the guitar is checked in as luggage and if so how did it survive the trip? thanks in advance for any replies.
Members Bluesfrog Posted August 6, 2004 Members Posted August 6, 2004 Man... I've fallen in love with those D-15s... I need one. I like those better than my D-35. I need an 000-15.
Members louiseB Posted August 6, 2004 Author Members Posted August 6, 2004 me too I think, all I need to do is try one out to make sure I have. I'm thinking of buying it in the US when I am on hols there later this year but will have to bring it home to europe. Need to find out how good it travels in the hard shell case....
Members irpacynot Posted August 6, 2004 Members Posted August 6, 2004 I can't imagine the 15 series guitars being any more fragile than most other solid body acoustics.

Members Charlies Ghost Posted August 6, 2004 Members Posted August 6, 2004 Years ago I traveled on a plane with an acoustic guitar and decided to check it as luggage. When I got it back there was a hole that went through the top of the case and right through the top of the guitar. It played fine with the extra hole but the airline company did eventually pick the guitar up and send it out to get fixed. If your don't want to spend the money on a good flight case I would explain nicely to the airline people when the plane is getting ready to board that it's a fragile instrument that must be carried on.They have a special closet that they might store it in.

If you're going to do it, be sure to follow Frank Ford's advice on packing for travel or shipment.
