Members irose Posted August 10, 2004 Members Posted August 10, 2004 I started playing about 3 months ago. I started off with a cheapo acoustic that I grabed at a local music shop for 100 bucks. I really got into to playing and really enjoy it. I decided that it was time to upgrade a little. The action and sound on the 100 dollar acoustic just wasnt there. So I read reviews and decided that I would get a Washburn WD420SE from music123. There are no dealers where I live. I ordered it and got it, the headstock was dented and the tone sounded thin with absoslutey no bass response. So I returned it hoping that the replacement would come in one piece and sound better. Well this time the instrument came with pieces of wood falling out of hte soundhole. The bracers that run horizontal inside the body of the guitar came completey off. The sound was better this time around but not great. I was fed up and returned it and got my money back. Music123.com never gave me any problems and they were always nice. I will do business with them again just with smaller stuff. I decided I would go to local music shops and give some stuff a try. Last night I went to a place and low and behold they sold seagulls. Ive read alot about the canadian made guitars and how good they are for the money. Well i played all the acoustic/electric cutaways they had. And some Ibanez and some fenders. I kinda spent a little more then I intended and walk away with a Seagull S6+CW with the Godin electronics. The sound is just so warm. At first I didnt like the neck cause I wasnt use to it, but now it feels like the guitar was made for my hands. I am justfying buying a 500 dollar guitar by telling myself it will be last guitar I need (for a long time at least) and also it motivates me to play.
Members UGB Posted August 10, 2004 Members Posted August 10, 2004 cool!! I'm glad it worked out for you on both ends!
Members Unk Posted August 10, 2004 Members Posted August 10, 2004 Congrats on the new guitar. I agree with you 100% that owning a guitar that you take some pride in will make you spend even more time with it. Your previous experience with the first two tries with the Washburn was undoubtedly a great lesson in perpsective and surely gives you even greater satisfaction with the Seagull. The jury is still out on whether it's the last guitar you'll buy for a long time. You've been infected now........and you hang out here.
Members Blackface Posted August 10, 2004 Members Posted August 10, 2004 I said "this is the last guitar I'll buy" about 15 guitars ago. But I'm sure you'll be happy with it for a long time. On the topic of Seagulls, does anyone know how much an Artist Studio is? I have to drive pretty far to get to a dealer that sells Seagulls.
Members jaminn Posted August 10, 2004 Members Posted August 10, 2004 First, I doubt that it will be your last guitar ( Can you say G.A.S. ?) Second, I have read and heard good things about Seagull guitars. Enjoy:)
Members madog99 Posted August 10, 2004 Members Posted August 10, 2004 I think you made a smart move. In a year from now the $300 extra you spent will seem like pocket fluff and you will still have a great insturment that can take you a long way and you may keep it forever . It might not be an only child for ever though.
Members 69lespaul Posted August 10, 2004 Members Posted August 10, 2004 Ah yes I remeber the day I walked into a REAL store and bought my first dreadnaught Ibanez .(back when they built their acoustics better than they do now..I still have it) My first was pawn shop Yamaha for 50 bucks. But it did give me the bug. I recently traded in my S6 Seagull after 3 years together. (sniff sniff) I just couldn't ever get used to the neck. But I loved the sound. Try that thru an Acoustasonic or something similar and you'll love it even more. Good for you...Keep playing. Oh and by the way, the other veterans here are right. One guitar is never enough. YOU WILL BUY MORE ! p.s. Put some elixir strings on that bad boy also.

It Is THE {censored}. I love it. Wife almost killed me for that one. LOL. The most I ever spent on an axe by far. 1600. But they go for about 25 to 2900 now used. New are like 3500 or some ridiculous price. That one I bought just for me. I won't even gig with it. Those epi's are okay I hear. Haven't played any yet though.

Members 69lespaul Posted August 11, 2004 Members Posted August 11, 2004 Just proud dude. I love the Takamine / Guild lawsuit model I have. I paid 300 bucks w/ohsc for that baby and it it the FINEST 12 string I have ever played. Including the one it emulates. Sorry if I broke your heart LOL. PeaceP.S. If you run across any early 80's Ibanez like that red one in my post...BUY IT! it is an awsome sounding guitar. Has aged beautifully as far as sound goes. It is a cannon. That is the one I mentioned in my earlier post. The first good guitar I bought. Paid 350 for it and I wouldn't sell it now for less than 1000. It is truly amazing what the Ibanez folks built back then.

I have an Ibanez PF-10 from the early 90's that I use as a camper, got it at a pawn shop with cracks and a missing tuner but it works for a camper . It has it's own sound and I don't have to worry about it (too much)
Members 69lespaul Posted August 11, 2004 Members Posted August 11, 2004 Everyone thinks this is a Guild. For the bucks, this is better. More pics.;
Members 69lespaul Posted August 11, 2004 Members Posted August 11, 2004 1/4 sawn maple. Awesome. Just like the Guild it copies. And it sounds as good or better. This is the FINEST 12 string I've ever owned. Did I say EVER owned ?
Members seven7 Posted August 11, 2004 Members Posted August 11, 2004 congrats on the new guitar. the one seagull i've played on (artist folk) was quite good!
Members tickzz Posted August 11, 2004 Members Posted August 11, 2004 The old Takamine F 400 you'd think was a wharehouse find these days. They keep popping up on eBay like Old Faithful. Great looking 12 string though!
