Members woody b Posted August 25, 2004 Members Posted August 25, 2004 My favorite is a Paige capo but opinions vary. Paige capos at Elderly
Members Guitar Adoptions Posted August 25, 2004 Members Posted August 25, 2004 The G7th Capo has been getting rave reviews!
Members woody b Posted August 25, 2004 Members Posted August 25, 2004 I looked at a G7th and was intrigued buy the design. I've got three paige capos though. Anyway, here's a link to a G7th capo :)
Members RainsongDR1000 Posted August 25, 2004 Members Posted August 25, 2004 Another for the G7th. Go to the Acoustic Guitar mag forum. They just had a "great capo caper" review.
Members seven7 Posted August 25, 2004 Members Posted August 25, 2004 i prefer the shubb deluxe. easy to use, and the adjustable tension allows you to fit it to whatever guitar you have so the guitar doesn't get pulled out of tune. http://www.shorelinemusic.com/accessories/capos.shtml
Members adouglas2001 Posted August 25, 2004 Members Posted August 25, 2004 There are lots of good capos, but whatever you do, DON'T waste your time with those stupid elastic strap deals. I use a Shubb because it's cheap, positive (doesn't rely on spring tension), totally adjustable, simple and easy to use, compact so it stores easily (i.e. in your pocket, instead of clamped to the headstock...which I always thought looked dorky...) and it's available everywhere. The G7 appears to be real cool but costs more.
Members apostrophe Posted August 25, 2004 Author Members Posted August 25, 2004 im going to look into shubb and kyser. the G7 is way more than i wanted to spend....so can a capo hurt the neck or finish of a guitar? id hate to hurt him.....
Members rh2d Posted August 25, 2004 Members Posted August 25, 2004 The Shubb is a good capo, so is the Dunlop. I have all four capos mentioned here and all will do the job. I think I will get used to the G7 and like it. The Kyser is probably easiest of all to use but unless you are real careful will pull your strings out of tune. Still it will work and is used by a lot of people. A small bet, I'll bet the G7 is the capo of the future.Except maybe the Dunlop.

Members Scodiddly Posted August 26, 2004 Members Posted August 26, 2004 That G7 looks nice (but expensive!). I've been using the Bird of Paradise, and it's pretty cool. http://www.elderly.com/accessories/items/BLKBIRD.htm
Members BmoreTele Posted August 26, 2004 Members Posted August 26, 2004 Hey! I use those elastic thingys! Actually, the Dunlop flip and grip "Toggle" thingys. Plus the Dunlop Trigger (sorta like the Keyser). But my current favorite is the Glider. http://www.glidercapo.com/
Members Jere Mealer Posted August 26, 2004 Members Posted August 26, 2004 I just ordered a Kyser 12 string capo, already use the Kyser 6 string. Easy on & off, no problems with tuning. Use sparingly...don't want it to become a crutch, hindering you from exploring cool inversions in the upper registers. If the song absolutely screams for open chords, a capo makes sense. If you are just using it to avoid 3 1/2 minutes of barre chords, work on your chord theory and find other ways to play the chords. You'll become a better player.
Members valleyguy Posted August 26, 2004 Members Posted August 26, 2004 Yikes, $43 for a capo, way too much. I've used Kyser & Shubb, vote goes for Shubb. Kyser gets my guitar out of tune too easily. On my 12 string I was unable to get the Kyser (a 12 string model) to clamp down hard enough to prevent buzzing on the 6th string, so I bought the Shubb, no such problem.
Members seven7 Posted August 26, 2004 Members Posted August 26, 2004 i had a kyser. didn't like it as much as the shubb. personally, i did have trouble with it pulling the strings out of tune. you can't adjust the tension on it.
Members Cams Posted August 26, 2004 Members Posted August 26, 2004 Another vote for the G7th! I also quite like the Sterner as it's so small. It fits my travel guitar well. I went and bloomin' left mine in a pub a couple of weeks ago. Grrr...

I agree, if you are choosing between a Keyser or Shubb, get the Shubb. Spring for the deluxe that has the roller on it, works smoother. If I hadn't found a G7th, I'd still be using my Shubb.
Members apostrophe Posted August 26, 2004 Author Members Posted August 26, 2004 looks like im going to go for the shubb! so whats the roller do exactly on the deluxe? oh and how do i know how tight to make it....its adjustable right? i dont want to hurt my jumbone!

Yes, it's infinitely adjustble. The roller on the deluxe just makes the opening and closing smoother. Kind of like a bearing vs. a bushing. Just put it behind the fret as close as you can to the fret and adjust it only tight enough when it's clamped to keep the strings from buzzing. If you clamp it too tight, I doubt you'd damage the guitar, but the strings may be pulled out of tune. That's the main thing I liked about the G7th, you just squeeze it as tight as you can by hand and it's the perfect pressure. no matter what fret your at, it doesn't overtighten.

I agree. It all depends on how much you want to spend. There are people in the Unofficial Martin Guitar Forum that swear by their $100 Elliott capos! I have: 1. Glider 2. Dunlop "toggle" 3. 3 Kyser Quickchange ...and my favorite is Dunlop's "toggle" capo...best 5 damn $$ I've ever spent!
