i just got my takamine gs330s back from the shop and all i can say is WHOLLY CRAPPIN, it's sooooo good, originally the action at the 3rd was a little more than 1/16" of an inch and now it is less than 1/32"!!! i love it. is 1/32" at the third fret good action? not that i want it to be any better can it get any better?

Usually action is measured at the 12th fret. 3/32 on the E and 2/32 on the e is considered medium-low action from the bottom of the string to the top of the fret. My Goodall is 2/32 on the 3rd fret and 3.5/32 on the E and 2.5/32 on the e on the 12th fret. Could be that your nut is a little lower than mine. 1/32 at the 3rd seems pretty low. I wouldn't take it down any further or you may get some buzz.

I may have already posted this link gorymonkey, sorry if I'm repetitive.

I don't know if the necks were changed along with the headstocks, but I think sometimes Taks get a bad rap. Let's just say that after a proper setup and a new saddle I no longer GAS for a Taylor - even though I have a lminated top! Subjectively speaking, their tone is "sweet" to my ear, the action is sufficiently "slick" to my hands and my playing has adjusted to take advantage of them. BTW, I've been impressed by those cedar topped Taks - especially the higher end ones like the EAN15C.

I had the same sort of experience as you when I got my old Tak back the first time I had it set up. The restored action made it possible for me to play "Over the Hills and Far Away" again without any flubs and I knew that the old girl was saved from the woodpile and was back for good! Try upgrading the saddle next time and you'll be blown away yet again - this time by the tone!

All talk of measurements aside, if the guitar feels better in your hands you will become inspired to play it more. More playing means improving as a guitarist. With enough palying time eventually your playing will become effortess and almost instinctual - depending on the day of the week or time of day or how stiff your hands are of course! ;)
