Members MrChitlins Posted August 30, 2004 Members Posted August 30, 2004 Or something else ? Playing a Martin MC-28 w/ FIshman Rare Earth combo pickup.
Members funkyfingers Posted August 30, 2004 Members Posted August 30, 2004 I had the acoustasonic SFX2 and thought it was a poor sounding amp to say the least. I sold it after two months. After that I researched and played alot of amps. I bought an Ultrasound AG50-DS2. It is a great sounding amp. Very warm and tube like, great reverb, and completely silent.I liked the Roland amps size, seems like an AER look alike but thought it sounded a little thin. Just make sure you give an Ultrasound a try brfore you buy anything. I wish I had.

The reviews seems great except for the people that had reliability issues. I was leaning towards the Roland, but concerned that it would sound thin (it's small & looks like it wants a subwoofer).
Members funkyfingers Posted August 31, 2004 Members Posted August 31, 2004 I have heard the Fender lower wattage amps sound much better than the larger watt. As far as the Roland, give it a try. Your guitar and pickup my be a good combo with it. If you like the size of the Roland checkout AER. They are a pretty penny but they sound great. I still would take the Ultrasound over AER for my current set up needs the warmth the Ultrasound has.
Members Acala Posted August 31, 2004 Members Posted August 31, 2004 I haven't tried anything else yet, but I really like my Roland AC-60. It's a pretty versatile unit. I used it recently at a backyard party--played a short set with a drummer and another guitar player on acoustic--I was plugged straight into my amp (Gibson J-45 w/Fishman Matrix pickup), the other guitar player was plugged into an LR Baggs PADI hooked up to the soundboard/PA. Apparently, according to folks I asked after my set, I sounded great. Which is really all one can hope for. If you need more power, Carvin makes a unit called the AG100D...it's in the same price range, and there are very respected folks here that swear by this amp...it's something to consider, at least. Good luck.
