Members Pedro Posted September 6, 2004 Members Posted September 6, 2004 I was wondering what the difference is between the OM-03R and the OM-09R? I know that there are some cosmetic differences and the 09 comes with a bone nut and saddle rather than TUSQ, but is there anything else that is different? Thanks
Members Prozak Posted September 6, 2004 Members Posted September 6, 2004 I had a similar question once. As the series goes up, the wood selection increases, so there should be higher quality woods on the 09 series, but I've seen some really nice wood on the 03 series as well. So that, and the cosmetic changes are the only differences.
Members King Tutt Posted September 6, 2004 Members Posted September 6, 2004 Generally the -09 is rosewood(RW) back & sides and the -03 is either RW or Mahogany....but since you said "OM-03R and OM-09R," they're both RW models. The rosette is a tad more fancier on the 09....and the 09 also has a tortise pick gaurd. The last differnce is in the finish. The 03 has a Satin sheen Urethane finish and the 09 has a Gloss UV Polyester finish on the body with a Satin finish on the neck. Happy Hunting!
Members Fstpicker Posted September 6, 2004 Members Posted September 6, 2004 In reference to the using of "higher quality" woods on the high-end series models, the woods are actually only higher quality in APPEARANCE (visually) and are not necessarily better tonally than the "low-end" woods. They do not tap-tone the wood for tonal qualities like some of the small "boutique" builders do. I know Martin sure doesn't anyway, and Larrivee doesn't either from what I understand. Jeff
Members 54merk Posted September 7, 2004 Members Posted September 7, 2004 The biggest difference is that the Satin finish cuts the cost on the 03. Satin dries almost immediately where as a glossy finish seems like it takes forever. The other differences are cosmetic. The 03 is rather plain and 09 is fancier. They should not sound much different.

Members Stephen Landry Posted September 7, 2004 Members Posted September 7, 2004 I thought a dealer told me one time that the -03 series had a 1 11/16 nut width while the -09 series have a 1 3/4 nut.
Members 54merk Posted September 7, 2004 Members Posted September 7, 2004 Not anymore. They all have 1.75" these days.

Members LittleBrother Posted September 7, 2004 Members Posted September 7, 2004 Just as a sanity check heres how the Larrivee line went over the years and changed. Also some various factoids. Most should be accurate. * Originally all guitars were made in Canada* Now 05 and above made USA (mostly) some parts Canada* all satin canada, all gloss USA* Originally all 03 series came with 1-11/16" nut* 03,05,09,10 series all come with 1-3/4" nuts now* Some new models come with 1-13/16 and 1-7/8 nuts * 03 series has always been satin and about AA grade tonewoods. * 03 series seems to feature various woods. * 05 Series seems to only be mahogany and sitka and sometimes all mahogany. * 05 series and above has wood binding and sterling trim on head* The only spruce larrivee uses is Sitka for production models.* 09 series seems only indian rosewood* 10 series rosewood with alot of appointments* Old parlor series satin made canada new gloss deluxe ones USA* Jean and Matt working USA , John Jr runs Canada facility. * Support still Brian Trepanier and crew in Canada
