Members apostrophe Posted September 15, 2004 Members Posted September 15, 2004 i was in sam ash today with the intention of buying one and i saw it and it was SO small! wow! i decided to wait....is it hard to use being so small? makes the keyser look gigantic! i did manage to buy a black suede franklin strap....oh so nice!
Members RainsongDR1000 Posted September 15, 2004 Members Posted September 15, 2004 Yes, I have the Shubb deluxe. Best capo I ever used... until I found the G7th! It is not hard to use at all, takes just a bit more time to screw in the right tension setting compared to the keyser The shubb is much less an eyesore than the keyser and has adjustable tension. The keyser can tend to throw strings sharp because the spring is not adjustable. Plus, you can put the bass player's eye out with it if you're not careful! For $20.00 the Shubb is a great capo. If you have $35.00 to spare, look at the G7th;)
Members Bluesfrog Posted September 15, 2004 Members Posted September 15, 2004 I've never really spent time looking at one... then again... I've never used a shubb... I've always used one of those kyser clamp ons... then I had a feel no fret capo... I want to get a G7 though... I know Dave has them. I'm just a bit reluctant to spend that much on a capo. I mean... they all do just as good a job. I remember I was doing Aerosmith's Jaded when my feel no fret snapped in two while capoed at the third fret.
Members 54merk Posted September 15, 2004 Members Posted September 15, 2004 My Keyser was my favorite capo until I bought a Shubb Deluxe. Much better design. You cannot adjust the tension on the Keyser so it throws off the intonation. The Shubb has adjustable tension. It even works on my reso. Best capo I've ever owned. A bargain for only 20 bucks.
Members apostrophe Posted September 15, 2004 Author Members Posted September 15, 2004 where'd you guys get your shubbs?(what a strange sounding sentence! haha) how do you know how tight to make it? sam ash only had the original C series but i hear the deluxe is much better...
Members sgrocker77 Posted September 15, 2004 Members Posted September 15, 2004 a capo is a capo, i have a keyser and a shubb they are both good.
Members seven7 Posted September 16, 2004 Members Posted September 16, 2004 i like, use, and recommend the shubb deluxe. excellent capo.love the tension adjustment so i can get it just right for whatever guitar i want to use it on.http://www.shorelinemusic.com (check the price here, free shipping)
Members JohnnyD Posted September 16, 2004 Members Posted September 16, 2004 mine is some kind of shubb. the one with the adjusty screw that clips onto the neck with a satisfying 'clunk' i also have two really old 70's ones my dad gave me that look like some kind of medieval torture device! they are a bit rubbish though cos you can't adjust them so it either throws the intonation out, or mainly on the lower frets doesn't give enough pressure and makes the strings buzz a bit. the worst ones are those ones with the fabric strap that locks into different grooves in the metal bit. they never put the grooves in the right places! i always want it halfway between two of them.

They both work just as well. The deluxe is made of stainless steel. As for tension you can feel and hear it when it clicks into place. Use just enough tension to clamp down the strings. No need to over tighten. SGROCKER, All capos are NOT created equal. Many of them pull on the strings, knocking the intonation out. And the old fashioned elastic band types are the worst offenders!
Members Bluesfrog Posted September 17, 2004 Members Posted September 17, 2004 I just bought a $10.00 dunlop from Musicians Friend... also got about a half a dozen string swings so I have some room to walk... ohhhhh... and I bought the most awesome guitar playing loveseat... it's sort of like one of those kinds you see in doctor's offices or businesses except it's sort of an african design on it... solid oak though... picked it up for $30.00.... it sort of blends in with my interior decorating... I have a lot of tiki god statues and carvings everywhere that were made in bali and some carvings hanging on the wall.. and a flute from bali.... then I got this brown wicker footstool... anywho... enough with decorations... I bought a robert johnson slide, a medicine bottle, a couple new pyrex slides... then I decided to try some of those $2.00 a pack musicians friends strings...and some other knick knacks... It all ended up at around 150.00 though... so much for hobbies... If I ever get married... how will I explain or do this with a wife around... you all must have it pretty tough... At least my girlfriend supports my hobby a lot... she, unfortunately, doesn't support my singing... I remember the other day I was on the phone with her and she went to do something for the dogs then I picked up my guitar and played CSN's Wooden Ships and sang it... and when I picked the phone up she threatened to strangle me with the phone chord....
Members labjr Posted September 17, 2004 Members Posted September 17, 2004 I have a couple of Shubb original capoes. I've used them for 15 years. They work well and they're simple. I like the original better than the deluxe. The G 7th seems a little gimmicky to me.
