hi I just bought my daughter a small guitar for her birthday and would like to know what should it be tuned to? Is it just the normal EADGBE or should it be tuned up or down? I have been playing for over 20 years but this is something I have not come across and was just wondering due to the smaller scale length

Tune it regular will be fine. Watch out for 3/4 guitars without a re-enforced neck. You wouldnt want to add extra tension with heavy strings or tuning higher.

oops forgot to mention it's a nylon string guitar so I don't think it has a truss rod, that was why I was cautious about the tuning:confused:

try and find out from the manufacturer. or at least the store you got it from. most of them are tuned standard. you may want to use light strings if you're concerned..

The short neck will create LESS TENSION, not more, so tuning it to std. 440 A will not in any way hurt the guitar. It will also be very easy to play which should help a beginner. Probably no harm in tuning it up a step, particularly since it has nylon strings, however, if you get any buzzing.
