Yeah, I know...but there's the Taylor across the room, it's a little nicer, but $600 nicer? I don't know. :D

Is the Taylor a cedar top too and a grand auditorium ? The Taylor will probably retain a better value over time. There is a very good buyer's guide on www.epinions.com . Here is the full document address:http://www.epinions.com/content_2252513412about Taylor guitars.

The CPX15CM is certainly a good choice and it should be a guitar you will enjoy very much.. If you like it , there is nothing wrong with such a good choice. Compass guitars are great .

If you are absolutely into buying a guitar with a cedar top, don't read the following but if your not, I would suggest that you also have a look at the new Yamaha Lotus handmade line.

http://www.yamaha.co.jp/english/product/guitar/aguitar/message.html I ordered an LJX6C ,a grand auditorium with cutaway . Very much like a compass , hand made too, sober look, larger C block, larger bridge, solid Engelmann spuce top, solid rosewood back & side, thicker body, reinforced mahogany/rosewood combo neckneck .

The Taylor is an auditorium, but a spruce top (314CE). I like cedar tops and the warmth and projection they seem to bring, but it's not a dealbreaker. I'll check into the line you mentioned, E, thanks.

This Lotus line there had me beleive that I should simply forget about

a buying Compass spruce top model.

Compass cedar top is another story as there is no correspondant model yet in the Lotus line.

In fact the LJX6C may not look as pretty as the CPX15.Those new Yamaha features I just mentioned are the next step to the Compass design. If you intend to use for your guitar strictly for recording , I would suggest that you look at the LS but there is no cutaway on those. As for LJX6C, it is like the CPX's sister. Looking at the specs, no doubt for me, they should be even more enjoyable acousticaly than any other CPX spruce top. Exellent neck on those L models too.

I include a link where you can download a video showing Dave Goodman presenting the L-Serie. Amazing finger picker.

Please, let us know on your final choice.

I own a CPX15EA. This Sitka/ Quilted Mahogany beauty is really designed to be a performance instrument, with an almost electric-type feeling neck (thin).

As a stand alone acoustic, I don't feel that it has a lot of projection; but with the LR Baggs dual system (pickup under bridge along with an adjustable condenser mic).........this guitar can really put out.......;)

I may be selling mine, as it doesn't really get played. :(
