Members kwakatak Posted November 9, 2004 Members Posted November 9, 2004 I've been working on the Ed Gerhard version of this song for a little while now and have gotten to the point where it's mostly fluid. Give it a listen: The Water is Wide (Ed Gerhard interpretation) Here's the gear I used with a little post-production trickery: Takamine F360 Audacity 1.0.0 (freeware) and a basic PC desktop omni-directional GE microphone that I bought at Best Buy. With a little experimentation on mic placement I settled on placing the mic on a footstool about 2 feet from the guitar and pointed in the general direction of the soundhole. I played as softly as I could since I don't have a preamp to set clipping parameters on the raw recording. After about 15 minutes of post-production in Audacity I was able to filter out the extra room noise, reduce the volume of the original stereo tracks to prevent clipping, added a second set of tracks with reverb and finally exported to MP3.
Members Fstpicker Posted November 10, 2004 Members Posted November 10, 2004 Nice...very nice sound. Very pleasant and enjoyable and soothing. Like the reverb and echo you put in it too. Thanks. Jeff
Members Rockerbob Posted November 11, 2004 Members Posted November 11, 2004 Very nice! I love this tune and you did a great job with it.
Members anselk Posted November 13, 2004 Members Posted November 13, 2004 Just wonderful and sweet.... I doubt if I could play the song like you.... but I am sure no time soon.... Great Job!
Members kwakatak Posted November 13, 2004 Author Members Posted November 13, 2004 Thanks! It's a work in progress because there are plenty of flubs and I had a little trouble with the sheet music so I changed it a little to make it work. I also tried to keep the melody intact and keep the tempo slow.
