Pics of bloodwood to be used in building another chambered guitar

These will be for another guitar. I will have to design one around the top grain pattern... These are from the same piece.

First the top...

Then a couple of choices for the back...

It really rings out nicely, too. The color is a much richer than the photos show.

I do have to let it stress relieve for a bit before using it though. I have to keep telling myself... Patience! I will probably again use Cuban Mahogany for the chambered mid-section and mahogany for the neck to tame the ring a bit.

Nice pieces of tonewood. Never seen or heard a bloodwood guitar, but I'm sure it will sound bloody good. The top panels seem to have that waisteline in the structure allready.
If I was to leave such fine woods for stress relief, I would probably need some urgent stress relief myself.

Yes, I see your point. Few people venture to explore what's beyond traditional shapes, building techniques and species of tone wood allready known to them.

I'm not sure I'm all that familiar with your previous work, Greg. You wouldn't have any pics of completed instruments lying about, would you?

Sure. Here is my first test build using pine planks glued together for the chambered section (it was built really to see how and IF I could build one and how I would have to refine the shape) and European hardwood plywood for the top and back.

I built it as a working test model but it sounded and played so darned good that I had to get a maple and ebony neck for it and revive it! It weighs next to nothing and has a great "funky" attack and tone completely different from my other build even though it uses the same pickups and electronics and relative locations. It clearly shows how wood does make an extraordinary difference in tone, at least in a chambered body guitar.

This was the guitar design I ended up with based on my prototype. I suppose youcould call it my engineering model. Now, I have to measure and draw it up for production. It is a Cuban mahogany chambered section with African padauk top and back and a thin layer of maple between the two and laminated Honduran mahogany neck with maple and padauk headstock overlay and ebony fingerboard with stainless frets.

Here's tbe back of the body (top hasn't been glued on yet) just wet down with mineral spirits.

Here is my friend who helped me build it playing the finised product.

Thanks for the interest! Boggs

I have seen 3" by 3" by 24" African blackwood blocks for sale on ebay. I always dreamed of gluing together 4 or 5 and chambering it all out to make an electric body.
